The quest for a contemporary identity is very visible in Dubai, but most of the time the projects are focusing more on de shape than on the space itself. Many buildings which try to protect the people from the arid climate, end up by becoming isolated self-suficient objects. Dubai Sport Loop tries be a connection. Situated near one of the biggest shop-ping malls of the city, this project tries to recover the public space of the city by creating a sense of community around the central concept of sport. I started the analysis of the sport phenomenon, understanding it not as a particular activity or profession but as part of a lifestyle. Sport means something different for each and every person.

PorousMonolithic Layered

The concept behind this project is the diversity of the singular apartments which reminds of the traditional urban typology that follows the geometry of the landscape. The porosity of the shape creates multiple views and outdoor spaces for each apartment. On the other side of the building, the surfaces create a visual contrast

This project is an entry for ISOVER Eco Skyscraper contest. Located south to the World Trade Center, near Battery Park in NY the project proposes a mixed used tower wich links Washington St to Greenwich St and brings the Battery Park closer, with a series of terraces and public functions . It focuses on intense mixed of use (live, work together, play) by integrating the public activities from the park and surrounding streets. The sustainable strategy: A green spiral around the tower wich filters rain water and purifies the air, the Inner atrium, the pipe installation at the top of the building, the wind turbines.

Linking autoway, designed to de-congestionate traffic in the Green-wich area and achieve visual and functional links with the Battery Park and the surrounding buildings

Establishing a green lane and a promenade between the park and the volume and mod-elling the shape using a green spiral to pro-vide a good ventilation and natural lighting

Making a green spiral promenade as an isolation between pedestrian and car traffic, along with planted areas wich establish physical connection between the park and the building

Splitting functions in major areas: public spaces, social cultural, office area, conference centers and fashion design hotel, student hotel, residen-tial

The history of Bucharest city is marked by various moments when continuity has been altered by radical changes. During the middle of 1950`s a new urban axis into the very core of our city has been created : Ion C. Brătianu Boulevard. This urban axis is vital for the needs of a contemporary capital, but affects the historical center which has been splitted in two: the West side, with Lipscani street and Curtea Veche Museum and the East side, with Saint George Piazza and Bărăția church, where the urban life and activities are missing. How can we link the values of the Past to the identity of Present? We cannot turn back time nor can we recreate the buildings of yesterday. Instead we can try to integrate the historical center in the city life of today without losing the functional and visual axis of the I.C Bratianu Boulevard.

The area wich i have chosen to study for my diploma project is in Bucharest, in a place with great potential, situated on the East side of Historical Center. Named Mosilor Path (Calea Mosilor), the area was an old commercial street of Romania and one of the most important structural axis of Bucharest city because it represented the main connection between Curtea Veche , the kernel of the city and the North of the country. During the 17 and 18 centuries this area prospered because of the commercial activities and the crafts and workshops wich were spread through both sides of the street. After the major urban interventions of the 19 century, the new urban axes wich were created, splitted the His-torical Center in two and slowly isolated Calea Mosilor from the active areas of the city. The new axis - Bd Carol I, has taken most of Calea Mosilor functionality and activities and so transforming it into a simple transit route for the vehicles. Another cause of the situation is the new type of mass production economy wich evolved with the Industrial Revolution

The first segment connects the two areas and creates a continuum urban frontwich links both sides of the city

The second segment completes the missing urban tissue by covering the existing blind walls and so creating an interior courtyard

Continuity is then transformed into rhytm and accents by marking the existing axes into to composition of the volumes

Pedestrian accessibility is ampli-fied by routes and passages and so creating an porous urban tis-sue with walkways and courtyards
