Consider a Language Minor You are already on your way! Another language enables you to work, live and travel in another country. Many career choices are only open to you if you have another language. For many graduate programs, a second language is required. "Studying languages and linguistics is one of the most rewarding experiences here at Queens." Minors are available in: German Studies Hispanic Studies Italian Indigenous Studies Spanish and Latin American Studies World Language Studies Linguistics Find detailed descriptions for all Plans on the LLCU website under Academics. Minor in Spanish and Latin American Studies (SLAS) Consists of 30.0 units Knowledge of Spanish will also open up many career opportunities. Kristin ONeill, Life Sciences and SLAS Spanish and Latin American Studies = Interdisciplinary Studies Students can take a variety of pathways through the Plan, depending on what else they are studying, where their interest lie and where they already have the prerequisites for higher level study In year one you take: SPAN P10/3.0 Beginning Spanish I and SPAN 112/3.0 Beginning Spanish II In year two you take: SPAN 204/3.0 Espaol intermedio and SPAN 205/3.0 Espaol avanzado In year three and year four you take SIX courses (18.0 units) in SLAS option courses LLCU offers many option courses, i.e.: LLCU 209/3.0: Rio de Janeiro: the Marvelous City LLCU 248/3.0: Spanish American Cultural Contexts LLCU 328/3.0: Gender, Development and Film in Latin America plus language acquisition courses in Spanish and Portuguese as well as courses on Latin American literature and culture in Spanish Option courses from other Departments include courses in Art History, Economics, Global Development, Film, Gender Studies, Geography, History, Political Studies and Sociology. Examples of a few possible pathways are available on LLCU website under Academics Carlyn Rodgers, Global Development and SLAS SLAS complements well with my major and has allowed me to understand and interpret what I learn in Global Development courses with an enhanced regional focus
