The relationship between students and their professors is a key characteristic of the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello. The Conservatoire Benedetto Marcello in Venice is one of Europe's historically most important high schools of music. It is situated in the monumental Palazzo Pisani, an impressive patrician residence in the heart of this world-famous city. The palazzo's structural layout includes internal courtyards divided by loggias and large halls, one of which is the spectacular Concert Hall surrounded by columns and dominated by a balcony that runs along its entire perimeter.

The facility counts several classrooms and study halls, with dedicated halls for orchestra and choir rehearsals, and also provides a precious extensive range of instruments. Illustrious professors and former students have contributed to establish the history of Institution which, today, offers students from all over the world highly stimulating courses. The School also carries out intensive artistic activities and research. Equipment at the electronic school of music formed by Giuseppe Sinopoli, and continued by Alvise Vidolin, is continuously updated. The School's library is acclaimed throughout Italy with its heritage of about 50,000 books, including large historical collections. It is adjacent to the Museum, which preserves ancient instruments, manuscripts and period objects, such as certain items donated by Richard Wagner.

Its location in a city of the utmost cultural importance, such as Venice, has enabled the Conservatoire to form partnerships with the Academy of Fine Arts, La Fenice Theatre, Venice Biennale, Ca' Foscari University, Cini Foundation, Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, Ateneo Veneto and Levi Foundation.

In the framework of the European Community's Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) Leonardo da Vinci, since 2009 the Institution has partnered IUAV University of Venice, Bari Polytechnic, Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, Urbino and Aquila, besides forming a consortium with the Schools of Music of Florence, Naples and Cosenza. The dedicated commitment of the Benedetto Marcello Conservatoire Coordinator of International Relations has been crucial in obtaining extensive benefits for winners of Erasmus scholarships for trainees, consistently with their calling, preparation and training, to introduce them to the occupational framework. This approach has successfully extended partnerships to leading institutions, namely IRCAM in Paris, Berliner Sinfoniker, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Nuremberg State Theatre, De Falla Foundation, University of Stuttgart, Lugano University, Hochschule in Basel, ZKM in Karlsruhe and Latvian Academy in Riga.

International partnerships have been established with institutes that guarantee our standards of teaching, training and performance, and whose educational offer resembles the opportunities provided by our School, to enhance the prestige of qualifications attained by

holders of a diploma and researchers, and improve the quality and relevance of higher education through transnational mobility and cooperation. We focus on linking higher education, research and companies to enhance the School's excellence and progress in the region, improving its governance and, hence, access to funds. The above objectives and projects will be developed with the essential participation of students and of all teaching and technical-administrative staff. A decisive contribution will be provided by the quality of the programmes proposed and good practices, such as transparency, accessibility and excellence. Adequate support will be provided to both needy and deserving students through scholarships and grants.

The Institution is committed to implementing the adaptation of its Information technology to meet with the demands arising from the accurate recording of international routes and periods of study abroad in accordance with any directions of national/international databases.

The objective is also to enhance visibility of the Institution's mobility-related initiatives, and to give all first and second cycle graduates/diploma holders a Diploma Supplement that clearly and officially states the study period and education performed abroad. The Institution will develop double, triple and joint degrees with the Ca' Foscari University in Venice. The Institution also plans on extending such agreements to international partners in the future.

Partnerships will also be established with local companies and institutions to value and support student mobility for study and traineeship.

The Institute, which currently feels a strong calling to internationalisation and prioritises existing and most consolidated relations, will implement said calling in the future through several skeleton agreements with universities based in the United States, China, South Korea and Japan, with which cultural exchanges of professors and students have already been organised in the past. The Institution presents a keen pedagogical vocation for teaching to hand down the historical memory of music with special emphasis on the great tradition of musical performance and composition. The Academy of music is also keen on developing the new professional frameworks created by music. Said objectives are achieved by offering courses both on Management, by extending the offer to workshops, master classes and traineeships in musical institutions based both in Venice and in the territory, and through agreements with institutions that pursue the same goals. The Institution interacts intensively with other member AFAM institutions, by cooperating in high quality teaching and artistic initiatives, such as electro-acoustic music, through the joint organisation of important courses and events.

Partnerships will be sought with institutions that offer the best prospects of introducing youth to the occupational world in the musical and artistic framework.

To this end, with international partnerships will be encouraged to implement innovative teaching, artistic production, publishing activities of new teaching materials and original creativity, in cooperation with European and non-European partner institutions.

Additional funds will also be allocated for mobility projects even through partnerships with local institutions and companies in the territory.

The Institution will create special funds to supplement mobility grants for outgoing students, besides organising services to benefit all students participating in mobility initiatives.

Profitable relations will be established with regional authorities in order to also access Structural Funds and European Social Fund.

The Institution will steadily implement procedures to ensure transparency in terms merit assessment and verification, and accelerate its modernisation process by constantly upgrading its IT systems and procedures in the course of time.

Activities centred on artistic production are essential to build the prestige of teaching staff mobility, including refresher courses and innovative approaches to teaching to also ensure new contents, the principal objective of mobility programmes between institutions based in different countries.

The Coordinator of International Relations, along with the Administration, is currently promoting and organising the artistic production of Erasmus students and professors, particularly enhancing the value of activities that involve professors and Erasmus students, both former and present, Italian and foreign.

The active participation of students and former students of Institution, who have been involved in an Erasmus experience, in initiatives focused on artistic production is crucial for exchanging experiences and testing their musical, technical, organisational and relational skills.

After participating in dedicated concerts and performances to ascertain the results achieved - strict assessment criteria will be applied to said process, both incoming Erasmus students and those returning from a mobility experience will have the opportunity to participate in constructive musical events entailing interaction with other musicians. They will also closely witness high standard artistic productions in the cultural framework of Venice.

By adopting this approach, the Institution will enhance its appeal to an extensive number of foreign students and train highly skilled graduates who possess the capacity to compete on the international market.
