I attempt to post a new issue each Sunday by 5 or6 pm central standard time (I sometimes fail atthis attempt).

I try to include factual material only, along withmy opinions (it should be clear which is which). I make an attempt to include as much of thisweek’s news as I possibly can. The first set ofcolumns are intentionally designed for a quickread.

I do not accept any advertising nor do I charge forthis publication. I write this principally to blowoff steam in a nation where its people seemedhave collectively lost their minds.

And if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, alwaysremember: We do not struggle against flesh andblood, but against the rulers, against theauthorities, against the cosmic powers over thispresent darkness, against the spiritual forces ofevil in the heavenly places (Eph. 6:12). If you do

not believe in Jesus Christ, let me encourage youto do so: Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth andthe life; no man comes to the Father but throughMe.” “Believe in Me and you will have eternallife. Believe not, and the wrath of God will abideon you.” (John 14:6 3:16).

This Week’s Events

lifetime sentence.

The name of Trayvon Martin was invoked againWednesday night in Gainesville during an attackby a group that police say stomped on a whiteman who was scuffling with a black robberysuspect on the Bo Diddley Community Plaza.

I am still hearing people comment about GeorgeZimmerman being larger than Tayvon Martin (theman he killed) and about racial slurs that hemade. These things were misreported by themedia, even though, apparently, many people arenot aware.

Say What?Liberals:

President Barack Obama: “...part of my job is toscout out where I may want to bring Michelleback later for vacation.”

Obama's campaign website: "The Buffett Rulewould require everyone to pay their fair share - akey step to reduce the deficit and invest in whatwe need to grow and strengthen the economy.Mitt Romney's alternative is to give millionairesand billionaires trillions of dollars in tax breaks

Page -4-

paid for by either increasing the deficit or bycutting programs critical to the middle class andeconomic growth." The Buffet rule might bring in$5 billion/year; that is 1-2 day’s deficit spending.

Obama 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina:"The Buffett Rule would reduce the deficit whilehelping to pay for investments in education, cleanenergy, jobs, and other programs that will helpour economy grow."

President Obama: "What drags down our entireeconomy is the growing gap between theultra-rich and everyone else."

Press secretary Jay Carney: "[N]o one eversuggested that implementing the Buffett Rulewould contribute in large measure to reducingthe deficit."

President Obama when selling the Buffet rule lastyear, “We also stabilize our debt and deficits forthe next decade.”

Davie Axelrod on why Obama doesn't offer to payhigher taxes: "That's not the way we operate ourtax system, okay? We don't run bake sales. It'snot about volunteerism." The President’s taxrate was 20.5%, as he took a lot of (normal)deductions.

Page -5-

Page 6: Conservative Reviewkukis.org/blog/ConservativeReview223.pdf · Zimmerman being larger than Tayvon Martin (the man he killed) and about racial slurs that he made. These things were

Sen. Charles Schumer: "There's no class warfareinvolved. It's a question simply of fairness."

President Obama: "So these investments - inthings like education and research and healthcare - they haven't been made as some grandscheme to redistribute wealth from one group toanother. This is not some socialist dream." Heckno! This is Reaganomics 2.0

David Axelrod: "What's changed is, we had thesemassive tax cuts in the last decade that wereskewed to the wealthy and it helped promotehuge deficits . . . and the American people knowthat, and they know that they haven't benefittednearly to the degree that people at the top did."

President Obama on his Republican opponent:"Instead of moderating their views even slightly, instead of saying, you know what, what we didreally didn't work and we almost had a secondGreat Depression, and maybe we should try

something different, they have doubled down." The Great Depression was moderated over by aDemocrat who prolonged the Great Depression,so that, while nations all around the world, cameout of their recession within a year or so, the U.S.stayed in a depression for over a decade.

Barack Obama: “And once Michelle and I had ourgirls, she gave it her all to balance raising a familyand pursuing a career - and something that couldbe very difficult on her, because I was gone a lot.Once I was in the state legislature, I was teaching,I was practicing law, I'd be traveling. And wedidn't have the luxury for her not to work." Mrs.Obama made $316,000/year then. I guess Barryforgot to mention that part?

Joe Biden, to crying baby at rally: “I don’t blameher for crying—she is going to inherit it [theRomney economic plan]—she’s gonna pay for it. That’s one smart baby.” So, it was not the$16 trillion in debt she would be inheriting?

Joe Biden: "To put it bluntly, we think they're[Republicans] out of step with American values."

Vice President Joe Biden of former Saturday NightLive comedian, Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn.: "He hasbeen one of the leading legal scholars."

President Obama, on the Buffet Rule: “Now, thisis not just about fairness. This is also aboutgrowth. It's about being able to make theinvestments we need to strengthen our economyand create jobs. And it's about whether we as acountry are willing to pay for those investments.“ Because our nation always grows as governmentconfiscates more and more wealth?

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner: "Theoverall cost of energy to the consumer hasactually come down, not risen"

WH Press Secretary Jay Carney: “We talked a lotabout jobs numbers on Friday, the fact that120,000 jobs created, which made for the best

quarter since 2006 in jobs created, came in underexpectations, and there was a lot of discussionabout whether or not that was a good number ora bad number. The fact of the matter is underPresident George W. Bush, the average monthlyjob creation figure was 67,000 jobs.” Take outthe two years of the Democratic Congress, andthis is much higher. Note the graph above aboutnet jobs gained or lost; when the Dems capturedthe House and Senate in 2006, notice whathappens to the job growth.

Health and Human Services (HHS) SecretaryKathleen Sebelius: "She [referring to a lawstudent] wants to devote her career to workingon social justice issues, which is why she's goingto law school. And she can go ahead and pursuethat dream now because she no longer has toworry about getting health coverage.”

Labor secretary Hilda Solis: "We need tounderstand what the president is fighting for - heis fighting for you and (sic) I. And it's aboutfairness - it's about fairness in the workplace it's

about fairness in education and it's aboutfairness about what services are provided bygovernment. And if we can't have a say-so inthat then this isn't the dream that all of us aspireto be a part of...Because if people aren't payingtheir taxes - those that can afford it - thebillionaires - the millionaires - even the folks asyou heard yesterday that were in the WhiteHouse that agreed to pay more. They want to paymore because they know it's their obligation.Because that's what we stand by - thoseprinciples. That's very very important for us tounderstand what the president is fighting for - forfairness.”

After suggesting that the “Buffet Rule” berenamed the “Reagan Rule” the other side ofObama’s mouth said: "So we've tried thistrickle-down experiment before [tax cuts]...Itdoesn't work.”

Rev. Al Sharpton: "We believe in Jesus, theycrucified him and never had a charge. They nevercharged, there wasn't no crime on his indictment.

So we've got to deal with the inequities of thecriminal justice system. The fact that we (blackpeople) are overly-incarcerated, the fact that wego to court and are treated differently, and thefact that when we're victimized there is not thesame response. That's what Trayvon was about."

A South Jersey man about those who complainedof his American flag with the visage of Obama onit: "In Acacia, there are some angry, maybe evenevil-minded people about Obama."

Liberal radio personality Thom Hartmann: "The socalled stand your ground and shoot first laws, brought to you by the NRA and Wal-Mart,peddled to state legislators, Republican statelegislators, by the American Legislative ExchangeCouncil, ALEC, funded by the Koch brothers. That's pretty amazing, when you see a fairlydirect line from right-wing billionaires fundingfront groups that are actually writing our nation'slaws to a dead kid in Florida."

Van Jones: “I've never apologized or stood downfor any of the stuff I did when I was younger, because you should have the right in this countryto be young, to think wild thoughts and embraceutopian ideas and all that kind of stuff. I wantother people who are young and want tochallenge orthodoxies to feel that you can do thatand you can also move on with your life. Thepeople who criticize me, I've done more to helpthis country in the past two months, fighting to

cut mortgages for people who are underwater, fighting to get student-loan relief for people, I'vedone more for my country in the past twomonths than a lot of these people have done intheir whole lives.”

President Obama in Cartagena, Colombia: "Wenow have a Republican nominee who said thatthe Arizona laws are a model for the country. . .and these are laws that potentially would allowsomeone to be stopped and picked up and askedwhere their citizenship papers are based on anassumption...I can promise that I will try to do it[emigration reform] in the first year of my secondterm. I want to try this year."

President Obama: "[Kanye West is] a Chicago guy.Smart. He's very talented...He is a jackass. Buthe's talented."

The Compliant Obama Press Corps:

Political Punch headline: “Obama Makes TaxWeek Push for `Sensible' Buffett Rule” Most ofthe article could have been written by Obama. Although there was some discussion of the Buffetrule, the negative points were at the end of thearticle.

Los Angeles Times headline: “Gallup poll: 60%back Obama's 'Buffett Rule'”

Political Punch headline: “Obama Calls for Taxeson Wealthy to Fund Middle Class `Investments'”

Seattle Times headline and sub-headline for anAP story: “Obama says nation needs 'Buffett Rule' President Barack Obama says the nation can'tafford to keep giving tax cuts to the wealthiestAmericans "who don't need them and didn't evenask for them."”

Yahoo News: headline “Obama Makes Tax WeekPush for 'Sensible' Buffett Rule” Criticism beginsin paragraph 7.

Times’ Joe Klein headline regarding Obama’sreelection: “A Choice, Not a Referendum.” As ifno one is going to pay attention to Obama’srecord of the past 4 years.

Jake Tapper, Host: “When you hear Republicanssay that President Obama is being a bully, youhear racial subtexts?”

Michael Eric Dyson, Georgetown UniversityProfessor and MSNBC Contributor: “Of course.Bully - I mean look this guy - if - if you can't dealwith this reasoned, articulate expression ofdifference and dissent and calling that bullying.”

First words in a CNN article: “Democraticstrategist and CNN contributor Hilary Rosenappeared today...”

In this same article, which was a discussion wehave a quote by Joe Johns, CNN SeniorCorrespondent: “On Twitter, Romney's messageman Eric Fehrnstrom incorrectly labeling Rosenan Obama adviser accuses her of going on CNN todebut a new kill Ann strategy...” Lots in thisdiscussion about Obama having the best womanpolicy and about attacks on Michelle Obama; but,as for suggesting there is any connection

between Obama and Rosen, clearly there wasnone.

WH press secretary Jay Carney on Hilary Rosen’s35 visits to the White House (5 directly with thepresident): “I don't know that Hilary Rosen - Iknow three personally, women named HilaryRosen, so I'm not sure that those represent theperson we're talking about necessarily. So I reallycan't comment on the number of visits, since I'mnot sure that's accurate.”

Daily Kos headline: “New casualty in the War onWomen: Mitt Romney”

Karen Finney, MSNBC political analyst, whoseems to live in this other reality: “Two thoughts. One, the number, I can't wait to see all thefact-checks coming out of the DNC because thenumber of, I won't call them lies butmisinformation that came out of Mr. Romney'smouth was stunning. And, you know, here's theother problem: the picture that he was paintingof an America, you know, restoring an America. Ikept thinking, ‘Well, it sounds like you want to goback to a time when women couldn't vote, blacks

Page -9-

couldn't vote, we don't have.’ I mean, it justdidn't sound like this was the America that we allknow and love.”

Random Acts of Journalism:

The New York Times: "...those who donated themost to Mr. Obama and the Democratic Partysince he started running for president were farmore likely to visit the White House than others.Among donors who gave $30,000 or less, about20 percent visited the White House, according toa New York Times analysis that matched names inthe visitor logs with donor records. But amongthose who donated $100,000 or more, the figurerises to about 75 percent. Approximatelytwo-thirds of the president's top fund-raisers inthe 2008 campaign visited the White House atleast once, some of them numerous times."

It’s all about race:

The US novelist and Nobel laureate Toni Morrisonof the death of Trayvon Martin: "They keepsaying, we have to have a conversation aboutrace in this country. Well, this is the conversation.. . The police are ill-trained and they're corrupt, and they're protected, and that's what they do.All over. I don't mean all police, but the systemitself is protective. So yeah, they're going to lie."

Louis Farrakhan, The Nation of Islam's leader:"White folks don't produce black children - except[if] it's a white woman with a black man or a blackman with a white woman and that's the end ofyour race. So you're dying a natural death these

days. And without an AK47 'cause the brotherain't shooting no blanks."

Members of a crowd in Grainsville, FL, as 3 ofthem stomped on the hands of a white man whowas trying to detain a purse snatcher: "Trayvon!"

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.): "While thischapter in the Trayvon Martin case may be over,we still need to have an honest and opendiscussion of the hard truths that led to thistragedy. Trayvon's death must not be in vain.Racial profiling still exists in our country...Theseare difficult conversations to have, but we musthave them so that there will be no moretragedies like Trayvon's."

ACLU's Washington Legislative Office directorLaura Murphy: "There were so few black men inour neighborhood that I had to send out an emailto my neighbors, saying, `Please do not call thepolice, because if you see a young black manwalking around, that's my child.' So TrayvonMartin affects all of us."

“Trayvon Martin” stickers put on mailboxes inWisconsin: “Revenge” and “Kill Whitey.”

Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah Wright: "I'vebeen preaching the same way since I was licensedto preach in 1959, ordained in 1967. Barack wasin elementary school when I was ordained. CBS,ABC, MSNBC and Fox News spent $4,000 eachbuying 20 years of my sermons so they couldhear what Barack Obama heard for 20 years."

It’s all about the “war on women”:

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina email:"Romney's positions are the most radicallyanti-women of any candidate in a generation," citing Romney's pro-life position and desire topull federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

Hilary Rosen: “Can we just get rid of this word,"war on women"? The Obama campaign does not

President Barack Obama: "If it'll help convincefolks in Congress to make the right choice, we cancall it the Reagan Rule instead of the BuffettRule." The “Buffet Rule” would require a 30%minimum tax on income of more than $1 million. Reagan cut taxes, he cut capital gain taxes (whichis what Obama wants to raise for millionaires),and he cut out many of the tax loopholes. Obama is essentially doing the exact opposite, so,in Obama-world, that is why it should be calledthe “Reagan Rule.”

Muslims:

Assistant Secretary of State for African AffairsJohnnie Carson: "I want to take this opportunityto stress one key point and that is that religion isnot driving extremist violence either in Jos ornorthern Nigeria." He’s not a Muslim, but he isequally confused. A Christian church in Nigeria, while conducting an Easter service, was targetedby a car bombing that killed 39. On ChristmasDay, the Nigerian Islamist terrorist group, BokoHaram, attacked a Catholic church, killing morethan 40 people.

Egyptian TV host Hussam: “The Protocols of theElders of Zion is a matter of undisputable science. Thomas McKenna: "So a Catholic employer, reallygetting down to it, he does not, or she does notprovide this because that way they would be, ina sense, cooperating with the sin; the sin ofcontraception or the sin of providing acontraceptive that would abort a child, is thiscorrect?"

Cardinal Burke: "This is correct. It is not only amatter of what we call "material cooperation" inthe sense that the employer by giving thisinsurance benefit is materially providing for thecontraception but it is also "formal cooperation"because he is knowingly and deliberately doingthis, making this available to people. There is noway to justify it. It is simply wrong."

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg: "The[Florida stand-your-ground] laws are not the kindof laws a civilized society should have and the[National Rifle Association] should be ashamed ofthemselves. Crossfire:

Hilary Rosen, a partner at SKDKnickerbocker, thePR firm of former Obama communicationsdirector Anita Dunn: “What you have is MittRomney running around the country saying,‘Well, my wife tells me what women really careabout are economic issues.’ And, ‘When I listen tomy wife, that's what I'm hearing.’ Guess what? His wife has never actually worked a day in herlife. She's never really dealt with the economicissues that a majority of the women in thiscountry are facing-in terms of how do we feedour kids, how do we send them to school, andhow do-why we worry about their future.”

Karl Rove: “[Hilary Rosen] went into the war [onwomen], guns blazing and growing grenades.” [quoted from memory].

Dana Loesch: “Yes, there is somethingold-fashioned about the belief that a homemakercouldn't understand the complexity of theeconomics affecting her household. Rosenapparently subscribes to the Linda Hirschmanworldview, one that posits women are only asvaluable as their contributions outside the home, unrelated to children and family. Rearing up thenext generation that will someday run the world

is woefully under appreciated. From an overflowof the heart the mouth speaks and Rosen makesit clear that her prejudice against women whostay home stems from a lack of respect andappreciation for what those women do. If thegoal of feminism is choice, Rosen betrays themutual respect amongst members of the femalesex by degrading the choices of other women. Considering Ann Romney is a breast cancersurvivor who reared five children and played thebackbone to her successful husband, I'm not surethis is a battle Democrats want to pick --especially with an opponent like Ann Romney, abreast cancer survivor living with MS who raisedfive children.”

Paula Priesse, April 13 : Husband after dinner:th

"So what did you do today dear?" Wife: "Let's see. got up, fed & changed baby, made schoollunches, made breakfast for you & the kids, didlaundry, changed baby, took baby with me to drycleaners & grocery store, came home, unloadedgroceries, fed & changed baby, lunch, foldedlaundry, paid bills, TV repairman came, fed &changed baby, kids home, took daughter tosoccer practice, helped son with school project, picked up daughter, cooked & ate dinner, fed &changed baby, did dishes & gave baby a bath."Husband: "TV repairman?" Wife: "Yep . threw theremote at the TV when that IDIOT Dem HilaryRosen suggested I never worked a day in my life!"

And then nearly the entire Democratic partythrows Rosen under the bus:

Kevin Madden, Mitt Romney Campaign Adviser:Well, if you're looking at how we spur jobcreation and we spur economic growth that'sgoing to help everybody, and particularly women, you have to look at how the private sector has arole in that. That's the most important way tohelp get the economic growth that we need tohelp working women, women who are singleparents. That's the most important thing. And Ithink the big contrast that we're going to see inthis -- in this campaign is whether or not youwant to -- you believe that you should put all ofyour faith in the government or whether or notyou can put faith into the private sector andprovide more certainty so that greater jobcreation and greater prosperity helps everybody.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Editor the Nation: Noone's talking about putting all one's faith ingovernment, but government has an importantrole to play in shared prosperity. Private-publicpartnerships are terrific. The administrationwanted it with the infrastructure bank, whichwould have put thousands of people to work. Butthe Republicans are roadblocks in that process.

Melody Barnes, Former Obama Domestic PolicyAdviser: ... to Katrina's point, all through this --this first term, what I saw, sitting in the WhiteHouse, is that one policy initiative after another

to try and spur job growth, to try and help thestates, on jobs often and frequently occupied bywomen, was pushed back on by Congress. Effortsaround equal pay pushed back on by Congress.About seven, nine Republicans voted for thatinitiative when the president signed it the firstpiece of legislation he signed when he walked inthe door.

Paul Gigot, Editorial Page Editor Wall StreetJournal: We've had the largest expansion offederal government spending since the nineteen,I mean, enormous that I can remember in thisadministration. The first two years it had openfield, Democratic, vast Democratic majorities. You got what you wanted. You got a hugeexpansion of federal government. How is thatworking out for the economic security ofwomen?

Vanden Heuvel: But, Paul...

Gigot: It hasn't. Real incomes are down.

Short Takes

1) Millionaires tend to have money to invest, andmost do not like to leave this money just layingaround For this reason, they invest their moneyin a number of different investment vehicles, designed, unlike “government investments” tohave a return on their investments. This moneyis used to invest in expanding business and startup businesses often; and this is the reason whysome businesses are able to succeed, becausethere is a rich investor backing them. You see, often people have ideas, but they do not alwayshave the money to turn those ideas intobusinesses.

2) I can’t emphasize this enough; there is a blankspace open on the 2012 presidential election foran unnamed independent candidate.

3) When I discuss politics with a liberal, they willdefend nearly everything that Obama says anddoes. How come? I would never take the sameapproach with Bush or with Romney. In fact, Iwould not defend everything the Reagan ever dideither.

4) When I saw this photograph, I was quitesurprised. It is common to take photos of Obamawith a halo and/or with light shining down on himfrom above (Image google “Obama halo”); butwith rabbit ears? This is a photo that would besnapped in a parallel universe.

By the Numbers

President Obama has stated, “We didn't have theluxury for her [Michelle Obama] not to work'” In2005, when Obama began serving in the U.S.Senate (and his daughters turned 4 and 7), he andhis wife were earning a combined annual incomeof $479,062. Barack Obama was paid a salary of$162,100 by the U.S. taxpayers, and MichelleObama was paid $316,962 to handle communityaffairs for the University of Chicago MedicalCenter. You cannot raise a family on$162K/year? Even back to the year 2000, theywere filing an alternative minimum tax form.

At AP, only one of five articles on 'Buffett Rule'notes that It would raise Just $5 billion per year. That’s not important? _______________________________________

Here's the rule; if a Republican does somethingbad, you put the words "GOP" or "Republican" inthe headline or in the first paragraph. If you cantie him to any important Republican, then do soin the first 32 paragraphs. However, if aDemocrat does something wrong, you eitherplace the word "Democrat" near the end of thestory or you omit it entirely.

Atlantic Monthly does an 1800 word report onJohn Edwards' trial. How many times are we toldthat Edwards is a Democrat? Oops, forgot tomention that. How many times is the authoridentified as a Democrat...left out that littlefactoid as well.

Btw, it is not just this Atlantic story. Others havealso forgotten that Edwards was a DEMOCRATICpresidential and vice presidential candidate. _______________________________________

This week, the “War on Women” changed in thedirection of the Republicans, when Hilary Rosensaid that Anne Romney had not worked a day inher life. Although the media is acting as if Rosenhas no connection to the White House, it is clearthat there is one.

They cannot have a national Republicanleader of the wrong gender or race, or the presscan no longer pound Republicans for being theparty of white males.

Obama has to sell the Buffet rule and the War onWomen. He cannot come out and run on hisrecord. He cannot say, “And you know what thelast 4 years have been like? I want to give your 4more years like those.” Contrast, for instance,Republican Governor John Kasich, who, whengiven half a chance, will tell you what he has beendoing as a governor in Ohio. Come, let us reason together....

Another View of George ZimmermanBy Dan Linehan

By almost any standard, Zimmerman's legaldefense in the Trayvon Martin shooting case hasbeen a sort of ongoing cautionary tale for exactlywhat not to do if you're facing potentially seriouscriminal charges.

Almost immediately, within around thirty-sevenminutes after the shooting, Zimmerman wasalready waiving his right to an attorney. He thenproceeded to interview with the police forseveral hours without any legal representationpresent.

Then the next day, still without any attorneypresent or legal advice, Zimmerman took thepolice back to the scene of the shooting at theRetreat at Twin Lakes, and reenacted whathappened on the evening of February 26th withthem, step-by-step on video.

Had Zimmerman's narrative and recounting ofthe details of that evening been any less than100% consistent, that's the moment wheneverything would have fallen apart for him -sometime right around February 27th. The policehad every reason and opportunity to documentand doggedly pursue any differences they sawbetween Zimmerman's initial interview and hisvideo re-enactment the following day.

Rather than finding anything they could follow upwith, what happened instead? The Sanford PoliceDepartment was unable to obtain any evidencethat would allow them to press even involuntarymanslaughter charges against Zimmerman. Andno new evidence changed that, even as days andweeks passed.

As anyone who follows criminal justice knows, under harsh conditions and during long,

station-house interviews, many people will endup confessing to crimes they didn't even commit.

Most people are conditioned from an early age tohave a bias towards telling authority figures whatthey want to hear.

Police have been known to take skillful advantageof this psychological blind spot to extractconfessions and other incriminating informationfrom suspects during interrogations.

In one infamous case, four innocent menconfessed to committing the same brutal rapeand murder after being interrogated withoutlegal counsel.

Even when DNA evidence exonerated them, years later, they were still not immediatelyreleased, because of the sheer weight a recordedconfession carries.

Zimmerman not only didn't confess to any sort ofimpropriety in his police interviews, he seems tohave been 100% consistent in his statements.

Which brings us to today's debacle withZimmerman's attorneys.

Apparently, Zimmerman has not been in contactwith his legal team since Sunday. He unilaterallycontacted a member of the media himself, SeanHannity, and there are reports that Zimmermancontacted the state prosecutor, Angela Corey, himself as well.

It's unclear how much of the web site he set upwas vetted by his legal team. In any case, the siteinitially included a photo of graffiti vandalism inOhio that has since been removed from the"album" page.

All of this, of course, must have been prettyhorrifying for Zimmerman's attorneys, who seemto have been doing their best to rehabilitateZimmerman's public appearance. They called a

Page -28-

press conference to announce that they arewithdrawing from the case until such a timewhen Zimmerman is back in contact with them.

The Investigations

There was initially a pretty strong assumption bymost people (mainly due to the incredibly biasedmedia reporting of the incident) that the SanfordPolice Department had somehow been complicitin not charging George Zimmerman.

But as time has gone on, it seems theinvestigation the department carried out wasactually extremely by the book. Lately, peoplehave changed tack; they don't like theconclusions the investigation reached and feelstate law must be to blame.

While the police spent weeks attempting togather evidence and press charges againstZimmerman, the facts of the case simply didn'tmaterialize in a way that implicated Zimmermanas having committed manslaughter.

Then the case was blown up by the media, andmore and more investigatory branches of thegovernment became involved, including theDepartment of Justice and the FBI, but evidenceagainst Zimmerman has still remained elusive. Ifthere is any strong evidence against him, it hasn'tbeen released by the prosecutors thus far.

While some have said it was reckless forZimmerman to leave his truck at all, the lawsimply does not codify that. Leaving one's vehicleinside one's own neighborhood cannot legally beconsidered "reckless" behavior, especially whenZimmerman was well-known as being theneighborhood watch captain for the community.

Of course, it makes sense that Zimmerman wouldleave his truck to investigate something heconsidered suspicious, especially when he wasrelaying information to a 911 dispatcher.

Many people have taken issue with the fact thatZimmerman was armed as well, but legallyspeaking, it is unlikely to matter.

Around 900k Florida residents have haveconcealed carry licenses. Carrying a weapon inone's own neighborhood is not uncommon, nordoes it have any special impact on this case. There is no evidence thus far that Zimmermanwas brandishing his firearm or otherwise using itinappropriately.

It may be that Zimmerman simply doesn't needhis legal advisers as badly as most peopleassumed that he did. Presumably noinconsistencies were found in his statements onFebruary 26th or February 27th. Had there beenany serious discrepancies, the police would havealready had plenty of rope to hang him with.

The crux of the case comes down to what washappening in the sixty seconds preceding theshooting. And those sixty seconds happen to bethe part of the encounter we know the mostabout.

There is hard evidence of screams for help on 911tapes. There is evidence showing Zimmerman'sinjuries, including a broken nose, and there is aneye-witness account of Zimmerman being beatenand yelling for help.

Since that time period is going to be the mainfocus of any investigation, there may not bemuch Zimmerman's legal advisers can do herebeyond what essentially comes down to publicrelations.

Zimmerman's transparency

While Zimmerman's lawyers withdrawing fromthe case was certainly confusing and unexpectedinitially, it makes sense when one considers howtransparent Zimmerman has been about whathappened from day one.

Page -29-

Page 30: Conservative Reviewkukis.org/blog/ConservativeReview223.pdf · Zimmerman being larger than Tayvon Martin (the man he killed) and about racial slurs that he made. These things were

If anything, hiding away and ceasing to make anypublic statements for the last several weeksseems to have been incredibly unnatural forZimmerman.

This is, after all, a man who was going aroundtown handing out flyers about the Sanford"homeless sucker punch" case last year, a casethat didn't involve him directly whatsoever.

Those flyers began with the same quote currentlyfeatured on each page of Zimmerman's web site.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph ofevil is for good men to do nothing."

- Edmund Burke

Zimmerman now seems to be downright intenton advocating for himself directly and increasinghis public visibility. This has created a near-instant

backlash against him from many who are stillconvinced he should immediately be arrested.

But that's Zimmerman's character in a nutshell;he's nothing if not exceedingly independent andvocal.

Zimmerman went further than most would involunteering to lead his neighborhood watch. Hewas, by all accounts, extremely thorough over theyears in reporting anything suspicious in hisneighborhood. He went against all reasonablelegal advice when he allowed himself to beinterrogated without an attorney present thenight of Trayvon Martin's shooting.

And now he no longer seems to be willing to backdown from speaking with the state prosecutordirectly, even against his legal team's wishes. Healso has expressed the urge to respond directly tothose who are rallying for his arrest.

It's difficult to tell what will happen with thismore cavalier change in attitude. Sanford is, bymany accounts, currently a tension-filled powderkeg. Yesterday, the police station was brieflyoccupied by protesting students.

This morning, an empty police cruiser was shot atsix times. Not the warmest response for a policedepartment that, thus far, has not been shown tohave done anything improper in the investigation.

Zimmerman speaking out will undoubtedlychange the public's perception of him, even if itdoesn't have much of a legal effect.

While he seems to think it will defuse thesituation, he could be lighting the fuse for aneven larger explosion when Angela Corey'sannouncement is made later this week.

Thank You, Ms. RosenBy David Limbaugh

Though everyone is talking about Democraticstrategist and Obama confidant Hilary Rosen'sinsolent remarks about Ann Romney, I want todiscuss them, too, because they reveal her leftistmindset.

Rosen didn't misspeak; she spoke deliberatelyand with passion. And when given a chance toretract or soften her remarks, she doubled down- at least initially.

Her comments came in a segment on CNN withAnderson Cooper. Cooper pointed out that in thecurrent economy, "women are seeing jobs comeback much more slowly than men are," and heasked Rosen, essentially, whether there wasanything wrong with the Romney campaign'shighlighting that fact and "reaching out to womenon an issue that they care about, on theeconomy."

"Guess what?" asked Rosen. "His wife hasactually never worked a day in her life. She'snever really dealt with the kinds of economicissues that a majority of the women in thiscountry are facing in terms of how do we feedour kids, how do we send them to school andwhy we worry about their future."

Though Rosen's next comment hasn't received asmuch attention, it exposes liberal thinking. Shesaid: "There's something much morefundamental about Mitt Romney, because heseems so old-fashioned when it comes towomen. And I think that comes across. ... He justdoesn't really see us as equal."

Ann Romney responded in her newly launchedTwitter account, "I made a choice to stay homeand raise five boys. Believe me, it was hardwork."

Back on CNN the next day, Rosen protested thatshe loves stay-at-home moms. "This is not aboutAnn Romney," she said. "This is about thewaitress in a diner someplace in Nevada who hastwo kids whose day care funding is being cut offbecause of the Romney-Ryan budget and shedoesn't know what to do."

Rosen's remarks, taken together, tell us that likemany of today's leftists, she sees America not asa melting pot, but as a Balkanized land ofcategorized groups, warring against one another. She sees people as blacks, women or gays, not asindividuals.

From Rosen's leftist perspective, Republicansdon't care about these groups but consider theminferior; "he just doesn't really see us as equal."

As usual with leftists, she's projecting. Who's notseeing women as equals, Ms. Rosen? Deny it asyou now must, but you are the one dissingstay-at-home moms, diminishing their role and itsworth and dignity, and implying they aresomehow inferior.

Page -31-

Page 32: Conservative Reviewkukis.org/blog/ConservativeReview223.pdf · Zimmerman being larger than Tayvon Martin (the man he killed) and about racial slurs that he made. These things were

That's not the way conservative women see it;they respect women whether they stay at homeor work. As Ann Romney told Martha MacCallumon Fox News Channel: "My career choice was tobe a mother. ... We need to respect choices thatwomen make." She said that Mitt had always toldher that her job was more important because itwould make a permanent difference.

But we must understand that Rosen'scomments also transcend her opinion ofstay-at-home moms. She's articulating thenarrow, intolerant leftist view that if you area member of a particular group, you mustadopt the attitudes of the left, or you won'tmeasure up. If you are black, a woman or gayand don't subscribe to liberalism andembrace its hostile identity politics, you arenot an authentic black person, woman or gayperson. If you are a pro-life woman, you can'tfully identify with real women.

Rosen's view that the "Romney-Ryan" budgetvictimizes waitresses further displays the left'shabit of seeing everything through the prism ofidentity politics. Like President Obama, she placespeople in economic classes, too - the haves andthe have-nots - and the only solution they offer

the "have-nots" is government assistance, not thehope of advancement through greateropportunity.

Ann Romney served up a delicious smack-downon this argument, as well, saying that she's beenon the campaign trail for a year and what womenare talking about are "jobs and ... the legacy ofdebt that we're leaving our children." She gave noquarter to Rosen's implication that the Romneys'wealth makes them insensitive to the lessfortunate - again mouthing the noxious view thatunless you're part of a group, you can't relate tothat group. "Mitt and I have compassion forpeople that are struggling, and that's why we'rerunning."

Sorry to break it to Ms. Rosen, but the questionisn't whether a president is poor - none of themis; Obama's not - but whether he wouldimplement pro-growth and anti-debt policies.

Truth be told, conservatives, generally speaking, have more compassion than those leftists whorelegate people to dehumanizing groups.Compassion is a very human phenomenon, not

The left's manufactured GOP "war on women" isbackfiring. Thank you, Hilary Rosen, and thankyou, Ann Romney.

A Response to "The Right Not toKnow" From One Mother to Another

by EBYJeebies

I was saddened as I read Carolyn Jones detail herdevastating experience of choosing to abort herunborn son because of a serious and irreversiblebirth defect in the article "'We Have No Choice':One Woman's Ordeal with Texas' New SonogramLaw" published in the Texas Observer on March15th 2012. She argues passionately that a newTexas law which requires a woman to have asonogram, hear a description of her child'sdevelopment, and wait 24 hours before having anabortion added a "superfluous layer of tormentpiled upon an already horrific day." On March23rd Time Magazine picked up the story andpublished, "Requiring Ultrasounds BeforeAbortion: One Mother's Personal Tragedy," inwhich the author clearly agrees with Jones'opinion.

I want to speak here because I feel so many otherAmericans will never be allowed the platform toanswer Jones. I have endured two heart-breakingsonograms in which I heard that two of mychildren were afflicted with a genetic disorder ofthe kidneys and liver for which there is no cure. Iwas told they may not live to term and that theirprognosis after that was uncertain, ranging fromneonatal death to a childhood filled with sickness, pain, hospitalizations, kidney and liver

transplants, and early death. I too was offeredtermination of pregnancies. I understand, as wellas anyone can, the pain that Jones felt that day.Yet I disagree, not only with her choice toterminate the pregnancy, but also with herargument that the sonogram and 24 hour waitperiod required before the abortion only heapsmore agony on grieving parents.

Jones did not want her child to die, yet she didnot want him to live a life of suffering, and so shechose, "the one that seemed slightly less cruel."Her own words highlight the dangerously thin linewe walk when decide who might and might notbe glad to be brought into this world. Can she becertain that her son would have grown up, lookedher in the eye one day, and expressed that hewished he'd never been born? Do children whosuffer through frequent hospitalizations, painfultest and treatments, and have a shortened lifeexpectancy really feel this way? Maybe some do,but I know my daughters don't. They are glad forthe life they have.

We frequent the offices of our girls' pediatrician,ear-nose throat specialist, nephrologist, gastroenterologist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and neurosurgeon. Blood draws, MRI's,ultrasounds, and ER visits are a way of life. But doyou know what? My girls also pick dandelions;they pretend they are horses; they stand in aweof the beauty of a crescent moon on a starrynight. My girls hum songs; they make up jokes;they play with friends; and at night they pray andthank God for something good he has given themthat day. My girls are more mature, morecompassionate, more grateful than so manyother children their age because of the sufferingthey have endured. They are an inspiration tocountless others who are weary with theinevitable hardships of life. Why do we believe sostrongly that a life that includes suffering is not alife worth living?

Is it possible that parents who choose to abortsick unborn children are also trying to shield

Page -33-

Page 34: Conservative Reviewkukis.org/blog/ConservativeReview223.pdf · Zimmerman being larger than Tayvon Martin (the man he killed) and about racial slurs that he made. These things were

themselves from the suffering they will endurewhile raising these children? Yes, it is a sinking, helpless, agony to watch them suffer and not beable to help them. It is an ever-present cloud toknow that they will not have the life that otherchildren will; to know that I will almost certainlysee the day that I bury my beautiful daughters. But for me, it seems far worse to have neverknown them. I've been blessed to hear theirnewborn cries, to witness their first toddlingsteps with leg braces on and a physical therapistcheering, to hear the beautiful poetry they write,to remember the pure joy on their faces as theylearned to pump their own swing, to hear themexpress thankfulness for medical treatments thatcaused pain. If I had spared myself the sufferingof raising them I would have robbed myself of themost beautiful moments of my life. To deny achild life on the grounds that their life will causesorrow is to quite literally throw the baby outwith the bathwater.

But even if I did agree with Jones that abortingthe pregnancy was the most loving thing shecould have done for her son, I would still disagreewith her rage against the sonogram and 24 hourwait period required before the abortion. In thefog of shock that Jones endured that day whenher whole world shattered, she made a decisionand she wanted it to be over with as quickly aspossible. She wanted to stop feeling pain, to beable to heal, and to move on with her life. Shethought that thinking as little about her son aspossible and being on the other side of surgery asquickly as possible would limit her pain and speedher healing. I think she is wrong.

Pain, suffering, and death had invaded her world. It would not leave that easily. When a baby diesin the womb of natural causes and is stillborn thebaby is treated with the utmost respect. In ahushed room the medical staff carefully clean andwrap the baby and hand it to the parents, whoare encouraged to hold their baby, to name theirbaby, and to take pictures of their baby. Why dothey do this? Aren't they prolonging the pain of

these poor, grief stricken parents? No, they areacknowledging that the fastest road to healing isnot to ignore the pain, but to allow one's self togrieve.

While I understand the very human response ofJones to close her eyes and attempt not to thinkabout her son who would die, I cannotunderstand her argument that it is wrong to bringthese sad thoughts to the mind of a mothermaking this decision. Jones is adamant that shedoes not regret her choice to abort. Why notthen take the chance to look at her son one lasttime and tell him that she loved him and wasdoing this for his own good? This is her lastchance to see her son, to admire his tiny fingersand his baby profile. This is a time let the tearsflow, to feel the pain, to think her decisionsthrough once more, and, if she so chooses, to saygoodbye. Even if you believed that Jones madethe right decision to abort, the sonogram lawonly provided her with a last chance to considerher choice and begin the grieving process. Thesonogram she received no more harmed heremotionally than a doctor encouraging a motherto hold her stillborn baby.

As for waiting 24 hours, we are talking aboutending the life of a child, or at the very least (assome would argue) preventing the potential lifeof a fetus. Why is it wrong to require a mother totake one day to consider her decision? When Iwas young my father wisely advised me not tomake any major decision in my life withoutsleeping on it, whether choosing a college, accepting a job, or buying a house. Why? Becauseoverwhelming emotions can skew ourjudgement, because those quiet hours on ourpillow at night allow us to reflect more carefully, because sometimes things look different in themorning. For the mother of a seriously ill child, the emotional pain will not disappear on theother side of surgery. Rushing to have theabortion the same afternoon as the diagnosis willnot speed emotional healing, and a law thatrequires her to wait until the following day to

Page -34-

Page 35: Conservative Reviewkukis.org/blog/ConservativeReview223.pdf · Zimmerman being larger than Tayvon Martin (the man he killed) and about racial slurs that he made. These things were

abort does not slow her recovery. If anything, themother might at least take comfort in the futurein knowing she took the time to be absolutelysure of her decision.

Instead of attempting to hide from the emotionalpain, some mothers will face it , and use thoserequired 24 hours to reconsider. They will get onthe Internet and research their baby's condition. They will find support groups of other parentswho have been in their place, or information thedoctor wasn't aware of. They will search theirhearts in the dark of night and ask if maybe a lifewith a disabled child might not be worth living. Some children will be thankful that someoneasked their mother to wait a day before deciding, even if, at the time, it caused her distress.

Carolyn Jones endured a horrible day. Thesonogram law only asked her to look into the faceof the life she was choosing to end and to take anight to think it through. I am sorry that she feltit caused her more pain. Someday I hope she hasthe privilege of meeting a child who was given lifebecause their mother saw them and reconsideredthat night. Maybe her extra pain wouldn't seemso great in the face of that smiling child.

Poor Bush/Republican fiscal policiesgot us into "the ditch". hmmmm...

Poor Republican fiscal policies got us into "theditch". Let's see if the facts support that.By Skip Bales (Practical Man)

When I first started this project, I had apre-conceived notion that congress was primarilyresponsible for the ups and downs of theeconomy and I expected the graphs to point thatout graphically. My concept was sound and thegraphs do tell the tale but as they say "the devilis in the details" and you must know EXACTLYwhat you are looking at. Here are someobservations on the following Unemploymentgraph.

1. We are told Unemployment is a "laggingindicator". So the unemploymentnumbers stay low during the beginning ofthe bad times and stay low after thenumbers improve. We should be able tocompare the graphs and see that.

2. The first period is under (R) GeorgeHerbert Walker Bush with both aDemocrat Senate and House. Unemployment was high.

3. 1993 the presidency went from R to Dwith Bill Clinton. Still both housesDemocrat. Unemployment was high.

4. 1994 Democrats loose both houses. Wethen begin a period of prosperity with (D)with Bill Clinton. Both housesRepublican. Unemployment is dropping. You can credit Bill Clinton for this or youcan credit congress. I believe Congressand particularly the House is moredirectly in control of budgets so I leanthat way. What the graph doesn't tellyou is the stock market is booming andthe country is undergoing a one of a kindboom due to the impact of this new thingcalled the Internet!! Whoo hoo we willall get rich, times are good. It isimportant to note here that while bothhouses were Republican, the DemocratsBarney Frank and Christopher DoddChaired the committee which oversawFannie Mae and Freddie Mac. PresidentClinton and this pair pushed through theCommunity Re-investment Act of 1995which lowered the Fannie Mae andFreddie Mac guidelines for home loans. This had a gradual positive effect forseveral years but set the stage for thehousing boom of 2001-20033 when thestock market crashed. The REPUBLICANSDIDN'T HAVE TO VOTE FOR IT ANDCOULD HAVE STOPPED IT BUT DIDN'T. These were times of compromise and"working together". Some good, likeWelfare Reform, came of it but some baddid as well.

5. The year 2000 ( D) with Bill Clinton. House is Republican Senate Democrat, sees the burst of the dot com bubble. This marks the end of the good times andwe should see unemployment go up asthe technology companies lay off.

6. 2001 (R) George Bush House isRepublican Senate Democrat sees usattacked on 911 which further destroysthe stock market. Unemploymentcontinues to rise.

7. 2002-2005 (R) George Bush Both housesRepublican. The country recovers inspite of the costs of two wars andunemployment drops. Similar to the dotcom internet boom there is a housingboom going on. This is created by thelowering of loan qualifications anddiscounted interest rates. People movefrom the stock market to real estate. Asa personal foot note, some of us saw thiscoming. I told my wife "we have 2 yearsto buy 10 houses", the market is TOOGOOD. You can buy a home for nothingdown and rent it for the payment. Thiscan't last. everyone is bailing out of thestock market and they have to gosomewhere. I expected the houses to goup 200%. We didn't buy 10 but we didbuy 5. The market expanded far beyondmy predictions due to "crazy" lendingpractices and the houses went up 400%. We sold them at the peak, did a taxdeferred exchange and retired 10 yearsearly. I remember feeling sorry for thebuyers but they wanted to buy them..

8. 2006 Republicans lose the House andGingrich resigns. This is where thedetails are important. (R) George Bush both houses Democrat George Bush nowhas a liberal House and Senate. Unemployment is a lagging indicator. Unemployment is at it's lowest point dueto good policy and a housing bubblewhich is set to explode. 2007-8 theHousing Bubble bursts and begins the

worst financial collapse since JimmyCarter and possibly even back to theGreat Depression. This crashing HousingBubble is the underlying cause in loss ofvalue of the "derivatives" you hear somuch about from the "evil" Wall Stcrowd. Actually it works like this: Bankmakes loan according to Fannie Maeguidelines, never intending to keep theloan, sells a "bundle" of those loans doneexactly as Fannie Mae required. Thebank gets their money back and repeatsthe process. Fannie Mae starts to runout of money so they bundle a bunch ofthe bundles the bank sold them and sellthem to investors. There is a very lowforeclosure rate at this time since mostof the buying was done before the priceswent out of sight. The bundles of loans"derive" their value from the history ofgood Fannie Mae loans in the bundles. The expected failure rate is very lowbased on "history". But now the loansare with the looser guidelines and thehouses are being sold at inflated values. Wall St isn't "evil", they just aren't anysmarter than the banks, Fannie Mae orthe government. For the continuation ofthis saga read my post on tarp bailoutpulling us back from the edge of a GreatDepression.

I have tried to be as objective as I could in myanalysis. There were basically two recessions, onein 2000 which was extraordinary, being theinternet bubble and explosion. The second wasthe Housing Bubble and its explosion. I don'tbelieve anyone caused the internet bubble pro orcon and I state that in my Clinton Surplusanalysis. But I do believe government causes theHousing Bubble and I tried to show the cause andwho was to blame. It was a good intentionedattempt to increase home ownership by wellintentioned people. But you know where theroad with that for pavement leads. Thegovernment should just stay out of it. There are

a certain percentage of people who are notresponsible enough to own a home. Havingreasonable lending qualifications helps maintaina reasonable balance and stable market. Theother side of this equation was a higher thannormal vacancy factor in rental housing. This toohad a detrimental impact on investment and realestate markets.

Here are some observations on the following GDPRate change graph.

1. We are told GDP is a "leading indicator". So the GDP numbers drop during thebeginning of the bad times and regainswiftly after the numbers improve. Weshould be able to compare the graphsand see that.

2. The first period is under (R) GeorgeHerbert Walker Bush with both aDemocrat Senate and House. GDP waslow and jumped way up.

4. 1994 Democrats loose both houses. Wethen begin a period of prosperity with (D)

with Bill Clinton. Both housesRepublican. GDP is growing steadily. Again, you can credit Bill Clinton for thisor you can credit congress. I believeCongress and particularly the House ismore directly in control of budgets so Ilean that way. What the graph doesn'ttell you is the stock market is boomingand the country is undergoing a one of akind boom due to the impact of this newthing called the Internet!! Whoo hoo wewill all get rich, times are good. Thesewere times of compromise and "workingtogether". Some good, like WelfareReform, came of it but some bad did aswell.

5. The year 2000 ( D) with Bill Clinton. House is Republican Senate Democrat, sees the burst of the dot com bubble. This marks the end of the good timesand GDP falls off sharply entering 2001. We are in a Recession at this point. TheGDP numbers that remain are left overfrom the beginning of the year. TheBush era is ushered in by a recessionand declining economy. This is the 2000recession of which not much is said.

6. 2001 (R) George Bush House isRepublican Senate Democrat sees usattacked on 911 which further destroysthe stock market. GDP takes a hit butsurvives and remains positive.

7. 2002-2005 (R) George Bush Both housesRepublican. The country recovers inspite of the costs of two wars andunemployment drops. Similar to the dotcom internet boom there is a housingboom going on. This is created by thelowering of loan qualifications anddiscounted interest rates. People movefrom the stock market to real estate. Times are still good and GDP does well. We are building homes like crazy.

both houses Democrat George Bush nowhas a liberal House and Senate. You cansee GDP is declining but it is really acontinuation of the decline of the yearbefore as the housing market starts toslow. I don't give government a plus orminus here, the dice are cast and thepath is already certain.

9. 2007-2008 (R) George Bush Both housesDemocrat. GDP drops to Zero. Thebubble bursts and has a HUGE impact onthe economy. Henry Paulson declares afinancial emergency and both parties fallinto lock step. For the continuation ofthis saga read my post on tarp bailoutpulling us back from the edge of a GreatDepression. Whether or not there was areal catastrophe pending I will leave foryou to decide. It is possible it requirednothing more than a change back from agovernment forced accounting methodknown as "mark to market" back to"book value" to solve the entire problem. This was proposed by many but thewhole country was in a panic. This is alldiscussed in the article.

10. 2009 (D) Barack Obama with both aDemocrat Senate and House. GDP tanksand we have the first major period ofrecession since Jimmy Carter. Tarp Panicand massive "emergency" spending sentthe country into a spiral. This is in reditalics because it is opinion. The housingbubble was clearly worse than theInternet bubble but of course, it wasgovernment made vs. natural. It can beargued that the spending helped but Idon't buy it for a minute. The REASONwe had a GREAT Depression was thesame stupid economic policies. Theyprolonged the depression was not GREATin other countries, only here. They failedin Japan when they tried them and theyfailed again. Please, if your spouseproposed borrowing on your credit cardsto maintain your spending levels when

you lost your job do you think that wouldbe a winning strategy? A recession whichwould have been over by now hasbecome the GREAT Recession. There isnothing Great about it. But it is not acoincidence that FDR, Jimmy Carter andBarack Obama stand out as the overseersof the 3 worst economies of the last 100years.

Debunking the "GrowingIncome Disparity"

Now, one of the stories going around -- and it'sbeen going around awhile -- is all of the disparityin income, the gap between the rich and thepoor. And depending on what story you read, themiddle class is about to be wiped out. There isn'tgoing to be one much longer. Because themiddle-class people are not moving north andupward, out of the middle class. They are movingsouth, and they're getting closer to poverty andnear-poverty. And while that's happening, therich are getting richer, and it's just not fair. JamesPethokoukis, the American Enterprise Institute, writing at the American blog. Headline: "Obama'sInequality Argument Just Utterly Collapsed."

Here's the pull-quote from his piece: "[A]llincome levels got richer.

"Yes, the very rich did exceptionally well, mostlydue to technology and globalization. Incomesrose 63% for the top 5%, 56% for the top 10%and 52.6% for the top 20%. But everyone elsemade out pretty well, too. Incomes rose 40.4%for households between the 60th and 80thpercentiles, 36.9% for the next quintile, 25.0% forthe next, and 26.4% for the bottom 20%. There'sthe 'shared prosperity' Obama says he wants, right in front of his eyes. ... President BarackObama has a theory of the case, yes he does. Forthe past 30 years, the living standards ofmiddle-class Americans have gone nowhere evenas the overall US economy has grown markedly. The Obama explanation: Wealthier Americansgrabbed all the money. Time to raise their taxesfor the sake of 'fairness.'"

That's what Obama's saying. And incumbent inthis, by the way, is the liberal belief that therejust isn't enough to go around. That is somethingfundamental for people to understand. If youwant to understand liberalism, Democrats andthe economy, you have to believe they look atthe economy as a finite piece of pie of a certainsize that never gets bigger. And what's in there isdistributed unfairly because we have a "you're onyour own economy," as Obama describes it. Sothat pie is the same size always, it never getsbigger, and what happens is that the elite richpeople inside that pie are taking all the money.

And because they do that, there simply isn'tenough left to go around for everybody else.

So what we have to do is take, in the form of taxincreases, the money away from those evil richpeople and then somehow give it back to thepeople who really would have it if the rich hadn'tstolen it from 'em. They believe in a zero-sumgame, and that's best defined as saying liberalsbelieve that if somebody gets a $10,000 raise, then somebody else had their salary cut $10,000.

If somebody gets a job, somebody gets fired.Zero-sum game. There's no growth! They don'tbelieve in overall GDP growth, and they don'tbelieve that there's enough to go around. Andthat is what informs and animates their policies.

"Here's Obama in January 2009: 'Middle classAmericans have been working harder, yet notenjoying their fair share of the fruits of a growingeconomy.' Here's Obama in Osawatomie, Kansas, last December: 'Over the last few decades, therungs on the ladder of opportunity have grownfarther and farther apart, and the middle classhas shrunk.' And here's Obama this week: 'Whatdrags our entire economy down is when thebenefits of economic growth and productivity goonly to the few, which is what's been happeningfor over a decade now, and gap between those atthe very, very top and everybody else keepsgrowing wider and wider and wider and wider.'Underlying Obama's entire thesis is the work oftwo economists, Thomas Piketty and EmmanuelSaez.

"According to them, median American incomesrose just 3.2% from 1979 through 2007." Yet overthat same period, GDP rose 67%. "So whathappened to the rest of the [money]?" Well, according to Obama, "The top 10%, 1% and 0.1%grabbed all the money. Or pretty much most ofit." They just took it because we're in a "you're onyour own" economy and they're better on theirown than other people are. They know how totake it when others don't know how to keep it. Sobecause of that it's, "Time to crank up taxes onthe rich and spend more on the middle class. It'snot overstating things to say that the findings of[these two economists] Piketty and Saez form thevery heart of Obamanomics, giving a powerfuleconomic rationale for Obama policies such asending the upper-end Bush tax cuts toObamacare to the Buffett Rule."

And speaking of the Bush tax cuts, Ezra Klein inthe Washington Post yesterday: "On Taxes,George W. Bush Has Won -- Democrats have, for

the most part, admitted that Bush was right, andthe Clinton-era tax rates were too high on mostAmericans. For all that Democrats talk aboutreturning to the Clinton-era tax rates, they onlyever mean for the top two percent of taxpayers-- the folks who are now in the 35% bracket, butwhom they would like to see in a 39.6% bracket."

But they don't want anybody else's taxes to goup. The Democrats have conceded, the Clintontax rates are too high; the Bush tax rates are justright. It's in the Washington Post, did you knowthat? Did you know the Democrats had agreedwith that? This is the first I've heard of it. I knowObama didn't want to repeal the Bush tax cuts'cause he needed the economy to keep growing, but this is my point. They know that tax cuts growan economy. They know it. But they don't wantit. Too much money in your pocket means lessneed by you of them. Means too much economicfreedom for you.

Anyway, back to Pethokoukis. But all of this thatI just described to you, "is not true, according toa new study in National Tax Journal fromresearchers at Cornell University." Cornell is nota conservative university. "The academics, led byeconomist Richard Burkhauser, don't say thefindings of Piketty and Saez are wrong -- justincredibly, massively incomplete. According tothe Cornell study, median household income --properly measured -- rose 36.7%, not 3.2% likePiketty and Saez argue. That's a big miss." Now,you might think, wait, how can that be such abig... 3.2% versus 36%, median income growth, how can that be? There are anecdotal ways thatyou can illustrate this, new car purchases.

Look at all the television stuff people buy, gadgets, smart phones and this kind of thing. Themoney for this is coming from somewhere, creditcard debt or somewhere, but still the debts haveto be paid, monthly payments have to be made. So the point is this. The bleak picture of thiswidening income gap that Obama is painting
