education, the perticipants discuss

about the concepts of forest conservation,

climate change, sustainable productive chains, adapted to the

local reality

Context – Education in the Reserves• Content not suited to local needs - urban and generic subjects;

• High dropout rate and low impact on improving the life quality of traditional communities;

• Students have to move to nearby towns to continue studies - which often was not possible due to lack of resources or not to separate the family;

• By 2009, only 4.2% of the Juma population over 18 years old had completed primary education and, only 1.5%, high school.

In May 2009, it began the

activities of the first Conservation and Sustainability

Center, called Samuel

Benchimol.

Educate and generate knowledge to improve the life quality of the forest people and traditional communities by promoting the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources

The NCSs aim for being demonstrative templates of sustainable pratices of water, food

and solar energy management

Here, the forest is also a

classroom. The stutents practice what they learn and promote the center’s self sufficiency.
