MENLO PARK GETS FESTIVE FOR ITS POPULAR MID-SUMMER FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

Connoisseurs’ Marketplace, “A Feast For The Senses,” Runs July 21-22

Menlo Park’s 26th annual Connoisseurs’ Marketplace street festival is taking

place Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22, in downtown Menlo Park. Host-ed by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, the festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day on Santa Cruz Avenue from El Camino Real to Johnson Street. Admission is free. Pets are not allowed.

Street closures/vehicle parking/bicycle parkingSanta Cruz Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from El Camino Real to Johnson Street for the two-day festival. Parking will be available in the parking plazas adjacent to Santa Cruz Avenue, on side streets surrounding the festival area, and at the Caltrain station on Merrill Street. The Rotary Club of Menlo Park will be offering bicycle parking in the Coldwell Banker parking lot at 930 Santa Cruz Avenue. Bicycle parking racks are also available at several locations on Santa Cruz Avenue.

Functional ArtJeff Davison turns local wood into works of art using a Powermatic lathe. Most of his hand-carved wooden bowls include a rough edge, which is the tree’s original bark, and are finished with a high gloss that highlights the natural beauty of the wood. Steven Andersen designs and builds outdoor furniture out of western red cedar. His Adirondack chairs, tables, gliders and benches would make a lovely addition to a poolside or patio.

Wearable ArtSan Francisco artist Mendy Marks creates her clean, contemporary jewelry by layering a variety of metallic shapes, colors and textures us-ing anodized aluminum, sterling silver, gold, copper, and brass. Andrea Bragg prints her lighthearted original designs in water-based inks on 100 percent cotton T-shirts. Her charming characters and uplifting say-ings will fit any casual wardrobe.

Fine ArtDonny Hahn’s acrylic and oil paintings reflect the landscape of his native Northern California. The rolling hills and rugged coastlines will speak to any who have intimate acquaintance with the Golden State. Karen Hale’s canvases have been called dynamic, bold, explosive and exciting. She constructs her paintings with layers of thick and thin color that is washed, glazed or scum bled over textured surfaces using brushes, trowels and found objects, mixed with a variety of papers, found objects, fabric, thread and metallic leafing. The results are a delight of color and texture.

Celebrity Chef Joanne Weir Joins Menlo Park’s Top Toques for Delicious Demo Line-Up

Watching cooking demos can be as addictive as eating kettle corn. At Connoisseurs Mar-ketplace, you can spend several hours each

day indulging in live viewing of some of the city’s top chefs—plus celebrity chef Joanne Weir—as they dem-onstrate delectable dishes in an outdoor kitchen.

On Saturday, Left Bank chef Brendy Monsada will prepare Pan-Seared Loch Duart Salmon with Organic Heirloom Cucumbers, Barbecued Corn, Pickled Red Onions and Toybox Tomatoes accompanied by a Micro-Rainbow Mix Salad.

Next up will be television chef and James Beard Award–winning cookbook author Joanne Weir, who most recently opened the Sausalito restaurant Copita. Weir will demonstrate a Summer Salad of Seared Tuna, Shell Beans and Tomatoes with Aioli.

Chef Barry Stiles of Bistro Vida will put together two quintessentially summery dishes. His classic Spanish soup, Gazpacho and Salade Niçoise.

One of the most popular items on the menu at Trellis will be the subject of chef Gabriel Madrid’s demonstration. His Chicken Risotto marries sautéed chicken with shiitake mushrooms, sundried tomatoes and fresh spinach.

From Menlo Hub (formerly Oak City Bar & Grill), chef Ali Kazankaya will feature Pork Tenderloin with Polenta Cakes, Sautéed Spinach and Gorgonzola-Cranberry Sauce.

Sunday will begin with a repeat of Left Bank’s Satur-day demo. Following that, Carpaccio chef Jorge Cortes will present his Chicken Milanese Salad with Arugula and Tomato.

LB Steak, which just opened in Menlo Park, will introduce chef Ryan Ellison and his Housemade Steak Sauce.

Chef Chuck Courtney will come down from Menlo Grill at the Stanford Park Hotel to divulge the secret to his Apple Jack Barbecue Sauce. He’ll plate it up with a Grilled Berkshire Pork Chop and Brentwood Corn Mashed Potatoes.

The chefs’ demonstration tent is located at Doyle Street and Santa Cruz Avenue next to Left Bank restaurant. Audience seating for up to seventy people under a giant tent will be provided. The demonstra-tions will run from noon to 3:45 pm Saturday and noon to 3 pm Sunday.
