Dragging and dropping files and foldersIn Virtual PC version2.0,copyingfoldersand files can be done bysimplydragginganddropping from Macto PC or PC to Mac.

Dragging from Mac Desktop to PC DesktopTo copy a file from your Mac to Windows 95, simply drag from the Mac desktop or yourhard disk to the Virtual PC 2.0 desktop, as shown below:

The dragged fileappears on your PC desktop. Youcan drag and drop folders, and both thefolders and the contents of the folders are copied over. Youcan also choose to drag to aWindows 95 volume, such as a hard disk or a floppy disk, in My Comp uter.

In Windows 95 (as in DOS), fileshave 3-letter extensions; for example, a text file receivesthe extension.txt, a document filereceivesthe extension.doc, and so forth. When you copya file from Mac to PC, it's best to include the extension so that Windows knows whichapplication can open the file. If you do not include the extension, when you double-clickon a file, Windows prompts you to select an application to open the file.

In Windows 95 you have the option to hide the fileextensions from view. The default valuein Virtual PC 2.0 is Hide MS-DOS file extensions.

To view file extensions:

1. Select a drive in My Computer.

2. Choose Options from the Viewmenu.

3. Select View.

4. Deselect the check box Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered .

Sharing folders and volumes between Mac andPC

Virt ual PC version 1.0 supported file sharing between Mac and PC by means of the SharedFolder Prefe rence. Virtual PC 2.0 still includes this feature, but filesharing has been greatlysimplified by the suppo rt ofdrag an d drop. Sharing a folder maintains a single copy of thefiles on your Mac hard drive.
