Alliant is probably best known or its superior nancial value

everyday great rates and low ees. And that reputation is

certainly well deserved. Alliants deposit rates are always

among the highest available, and our loan rates are consistently

    below market.

But there is more to Alliants mission than price. We are also

committed to providing members with an exceptional service

experience. We understand that consumers are looking or

value and service rom their nancial providers. Service is

the competitive high ground, the oundation o deep, durable

relationships. More importantly, as a member-owned institution, providing thebest possible service is simply the right thing to do.

Doing business with Alliant shouldnt be a hassle. Were constantly examining

our procedures and processes to make them more ecient, timely and transparent

or members. This year were redesigning our new member application and loan

origination processes to signicantly improve member experience online.

When dealing with our Service Centers or calling our 24/7 Member Contact Center,

members should expect Alliant employees to be riendly, helpul and eective.

And members should also expect exceptional service through our remote channels.

We continue to enhance Alliant Online Banking to enable members to conduct

virtually any business remotely, i they choose. In 2011, we added the ability to

do beneciary maintenance, ATM/debit card management and uture dated loan

payos. This year well be making major improvements to joint account access.

An increasing number o members want to access their Alliant accounts through

mobile phones, and we are committed to supporting their ability to conduct business

anytime, anywhere. We oer mobile apps or iPhone and Android devices,

and last year introduced a mobile optimized website. Soon, members will be able

to deposit checks using their phones camera eature.

Our eorts to improve service are bearing ruit. In 2011, 65% o members who

responded to Alliants monthly satisaction survey said they were extremely

satised with Alliant, an increase o two percentage points rom the prior year.

But that still leaves a lot o room or improvement, and we wont rest in our quest

to deliver the experience that our members deserve.

Legendary investor Warren Buett isamous or his long-term perspective. He says he likes to make investmentshe would be comortable holding eveni the market shut down or 10 years. Itcan be challenging to have Buett-likepatience today. Times like these canrazzle the nerves o any investor, eventhe pros. But with stocks, having aninvesting strategy is only hal the battle. The other hal is sticking to it.

Just what is long term?Your denitiono long term is crucial, and dependson your individual nancial goals andwhen you want to achieve them. A70-year-old retiree may have a shorterlong term than a 30-year-old savingor retirement. Meanwhile, its instruc-tive to look at various holding periodsor equities over the years. Historically, the shorter your holding period, thegreater the chance o experiencing aloss. In the long term, equities typicallyoutperorm bonds, cash and infation. The odds o achieving a positive returnin the stock market have been muchhigher over a ve- or 10-year periodthan or a single year, though pastperormance is no guarantee o utureresults.

Keeping yourself on track. Havingpredetermined guidelines that anticipate

    turbulent times can help prevent

emotion rom dictating your decisions.Even i youre not a buy-and-holdinvestor, a trading discipline can helpyou stick to a long-term plan. And,remember that everythings relative. Most o the variance in the returns odierent portolios is based on theirrespective asset allocations. And solidasset allocation is still the basis o goodinvestment planning.

I youre retired and worried about amarket downturns impact on yourincome, think beore reacting. I yousell stock during a period o allingprices simply because that was youroriginal game plan, you might notget the best price. Moreover, that salemight also reduce your ability to gener-ate income in later years.

Use cash to help manage your mindset.Having some cash holdings can bethe nancial equivalent o taking deepbreaths to relax. It can enhance yourability to act thoughtully insteado impulsively. An appropriate assetallocation can help you have enoughresources on hand to prevent havingto sell stocks at an inopportune time.Knowing that youre positioned totake advantage o a market swoon bypicking up bargains may increase yourability to be patient.
