Home Group HomeworkFor the week of September 4, 2016
GETTING TO KNOW ME: • How many foreign countries have you been to? (And what are they?)
REVIEW:What stood out to you from the weekend’s message?
DIGGING DEEPER:We all know what it’s like to say something we wish we could take back. As we ask the question, “What if I took control of my words” lets review the most famous passage of scripture that deals with this unique problem. Read: James 3:1-12
1. Whyisitsodifficulttocontrolourwords?
a. Why is controlling our words a necessity for Christians?
2. Why do you think James says we would be perfect if we could control our words?
September 3–4, 2016
The homework is now available to do and save on the MPCC App! Click: Connect – Adults – Home Groups – Date (of homework)
3. Why does James write so negatively about the tongue in verse 6, aren’t there good words and positives as well?
4. Explain how technology has given our words more power to destroy either someone else’s or our own lives’.
a. Can you give an example of this in the life of someone you know or perhaps someone famous?
5. Read: Proverbs 10:19 — why do many words bring about sin?
6. James 3:10 says, “Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing.” Explain why this is a problem? Do we have to be positive at all times? What if there is something that needs to be spoken against?
7. What advice do you have for someone to help them control their tongue?
APPLICATION 1. We often need help to grow in the areas God wants us to, who is
someone that can help you gain control of your words through accountability?
2. What are three things you can do this week to help you control what you say?
3. Is there a person you need to ask forgiveness from because of past words?
PRAYER REQUESTS:
