Connecting4Success ProgramBrief Program Overview:

The Connecting4Sucess is a mentorship program that runs out of the University of Windsor’s Educational Development Centre

Second year of the program

Last year’s program numbers:Advice Guru’s: 70Mentees: 98

Upper year students and staff are paired with first-year students who could be at-risk (E.g. First Generation Students) who are enrolled in the same program/faculty

Connecting4Success ProgramTime commitment:

• Approximately 5 hours/month• The program runs for the entire academic year (August-March)

Advice Guru Recognition:• Position can be added to the Co-curricular Transcript• Two gift cards (fall/winter)• Program certificate• Program t-shirt• Giveaways throughout the year• Monies deposited on your UwinCARD to treat both you and your

mentee to beverages and snacks during your meetings• Mentor Appreciation Dinner

Connecting4Success ProgramAdvice Guru Responsibilities:

Complete and participate in trainingsMaintain confidentiality regarding your menteeMeet face to face with your Mentees on the required touch points

• Weekly in September, starting with Windsor Welcome Week• A minimum of twice in October• A minimum of once a month starting in November through to the end

of MarchListen, coach and offer insight and support regarding the first-year university experienceComplete monthly reports and submit them by the deadline Report immediately to staff any concernsRefer your mentee to an appropriate service on campus, if they have an issue or problemAttend program events with your mentee

ConfidentialityAs a mentor, you will encounter confidential information, such as students’ academic standing, personal difficulties, and/or contact informationYou are required to keep this information confidential. You may only discuss these details with the Program Coordinator. By signing the Advice Guru Code of Conduct you agreed to maintaining confidentiality when it comes to your mentee. Breeching confidentiality may result in your dismissal from the program.

Turtle Island Aboriginal Education Centre

• Turtle Island Aboriginal Education Centre was created in 1992

• Provides services and programming to meet the needs of Aboriginal students in a culturally supportive atmosphere

• Turtle Island serves as a bridge to other services on campus

• The office holds lunches, gatherings, and orientation events

Making Referrals

What is the role of the Advice Guru?You can not solve the students problems for themBut… you can refer them to the appropriate services on campus to get their problems/questions answered You are coaching your mentee, not advising, tutoring and/or fixing

Making Referrals• At some point during your mentorship, if your mentee’s

personal problem, behavior or situation makes you feel ill-equipped, uncomfortable, or helpless please refer your mentee to:
