www.klinkmann.com6 / 2011
Your input/output requirements change everyday. In today’s industrial environment, there isa rapid pace of product innovation, moreemphasis on distributing the I/O throughoutthe application, and a greater importancebeing placed on the communications network.
At the same time, you are being asked to produce quality products faster. Reduce inventories, lower training costs and spendless money on maintenance. At RockwellAutomation, our challenge is to help you reach those goals. We are the only companythat offers the experience with world-class I/Oproducts for virtually every need. Choose fromI/O that is distributed around the applicationor integrated with the controller. Allen-BradleyI/O offers the greatest advantage with thepower of the NetLinx™ Open Networks.
Whether you choose a ControlLogix® orCompactLogix® programmable automationcontroller, a PLC-5®, SLC™ 500, or MicroLogix™
programmable logic controller, or theGuardLogix™ safety programmable controller, each offers I/O that you can install locally inthe same chassis as the processor. Additionally, through the use of I/O communication networks, you can also distribute I/O in locations remote from the processor, closer tothe sensors and actuators, reducing yourwiring costs.
Having the freedom to monitor and controlI/O across an I/O link means you can selectI/O products from a variety of platforms thatinclude a variety of integrated terminationsolutions.
Rockwell Automation also offers a wide selection of more granular distributed, In-Cabinet™ (IP20) I/O for use in your control system. These range from simple 4 I/O blocks up to 128 I/O blocks, to modularI/O that offers increased flexibility for yourexact needs, or intrinsic safety. For mountingOn-Machine™, we offer a line of hardened(IP67/69K) block or module I/O to reduce your wiring and system costs.
In addition, you can take advantage of ourDeviceLogix™ Smart Component Technologythat integrates low cost logic solving capability in your I/O. DeviceLogix-enabledI/O performs simple control functions locallywithout the performance constraints typically imposed by a centralized controller and a communication network.
Rockwell Automation also offers distributedsafety I/O modules, including I/O that can belocated on the machine close to sensors andactuators, controlled from a safety PLC. A distributed safety I/O module continuouslymonitors its internal functions to make cer-tain that it is functioning and available if asafety demand is placed on the system. It alsoprovides valuable detailed diagnostic information to the machine operators andmaintenance personnel making troubleshooting easier and thereby improvingoverall machine utilization.
