Even though I knew I needed to diet and exercise, it was very hard for me to get into the mindset to get healthier. It sounded good in my head, but to put it into action was another thing. My mom, a breast cancer survivor, marathon runner and employee of the YMCA, told me she would help me get fit and stay motivated. At first, I started meeting her at the Y on the indoor track because I was terrified of the big fitness center. The more I met with her to workout, the better I felt. The more I watched the numbers go down on my scale, the more motivated I became to exercise. It became an addiction- a good addiction. My mom told me, “When it takes more willpower to stay home than it does to go workout, you know you’re committed. “ I am now brave enough to go into the fitness center to workout. I found out its not scary at all! My weight has dropped drastically, my breathing has improved greatly (I no longer need my inhaler), my blood pressure has lowered to where it should be, and I just FEEL better. At the beginning of this journey, I knew I could not do this alone. I prayed that God would give me the willpower I needed to get fit. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me.” He has definitely given me the strength I need, and for that I am truly thankful. If you are struggling getting into the mindset of committing to get fit, I urge you to just start out walking on the indoor track.
