CONNECTING BUSINESS TO NON-PROFITS AND FINDING COMPASSION ALONG THE WAY...

Annual Report | 2016

VISION Liberty Road Foundation will transform the business community by mobilizing it to restore hope, dignity and significance to those in need.

MISSION Liberty Road Foundation’s mission is to mobilize people and resources of businesses in partnership with service agencies for the transformation of all participants.

2016 HIGHLIGHTS

• 7,485 volunteer/man hours donated

• $31,562 in donated food supplies

• 9,019 meals served

• 2,975 kids received backpacks filled with school supplies

• 500 families were fed a turkey dinner

Friends: Liberty Road Foundation exists to transform the business community by mobilizing them to bring hope, dignity and significance to those in need. We believe when you get your business involved in serving the community both financially and in volunteering, there is a cultural change that happens. We’ve heard business owners and their employees say, “My life will never be the same since I got involved in volunteering.”

We hear many business owners tell us, “There is a new excitement in our business, my employees are more excited to come to work, more productive and have better attitudes.” Curt Altig, CEO of Builders Capital in Seattle says, “Being involved in Liberty Road Foundation has helped us to get plugged into the community and, by that, has really helped to change our perspective when we meet all these people with real problems. It also has helped our productivity, it’s created a healthy environment among our employees and it creates a greater connection between them as well.”

We continue to witness amazing testimonies of change and transformation among the many non-profits we serve. There is so much to do, so many lives to be loved and cared for and so much dignity and hope to be restored. As Mother Teresa said, “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” She also said, “Intense love does not measure, it just gives”.

As a business community, we ask: “What can we do?” “What can we fix?” “How much can we donate?” However, when it comes to the hard questions, our lips go mute.

So our partners expose us to brokenness. They break our hearts. And in doing so, we find our own brokenness. We hear the call. We connect to our purpose.

Business Leaders, we challenge you to get involved. William Arthur Ward said, “Do more than belong: Participate. Do more than care: Help. Do more than believe: Practice. Do more than be fair: Be Kind. Do more than forgive: Forget. Do more than dream: Work.”

As we enter a new year for Liberty Road Foundation, we look to the Holy Spirit’s lead to grow our relationships in Him and for Him.

In His Steps along the road.

“I want to work for a company that contributes to and is part of the community. I want something not just to invest in. I want something to believe in.”

THE MATT TALBOT CENTER

RESTORED AND REDEEMED

Established in 1985, The Matt Talbot Center (MTC) is a Washington state licensed treatment program serving the homeless, addicted and mentally ill. Located in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood, The Matt Talbot Center offers hope, services and support to individuals ready to commit to change. The heart of MTC’s approach is an intensive clinical outpatient treatment program offered in a Christian context for adults.

The Matt Talbot Center’s fundamental strategy is restoration of lives through sustained and supported change. Years of experience have taught us that when a person wants to recover—wants to stop “drinking and drugging”—they need a “clean and sober environment.”

“...Make all the difference in these changing times. Their dedication and consistent care in connecting businesses to our community on all levels is invaluable, from helping out our kitchen staff to advising our senior staff. We look forward to years of opportunity ahead and a chance to transform businesses and our culture as a team.”Gregory K. Alex, Executive Director, The Matt Talbot Center

RAVEN ROCK RANCH

MISSION

“I have observed children learn how to set and maintain boundaries in their lives without anger or frustration. I have seen parents gain new hope that a child who they thought was lost, now has been restored. I have seen volunteers who have shared stories of the horror that was their own childhood find healing in offering a child a hand in overcoming a familiar pain. I have found my own healing in many ways by the blessings of these miracles.”Sandy Matts, President, Raven Rock Ranch

Raven Rock Ranch, through its instructors and volunteers, rescues and rehabilitates neglected or abused horses and pairs them with at-risk youth transforming the youth and horse in a bond of trust that leads to recovery both mentally and physically.

“...At first to their horse, and later to their peers. At Raven Rock Ranch we have seen lives transformed from desperation to hope through the miracles that happen between a horse and a child.”

Sandy Matts, President and Tim Matts, Vice President, Raven Rock Ranch

“WE HEAR REPORTS OF CHILDREN WHO HAVE NO SELF-CONFIDENCE GROW TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE IMPORTANT AND WORTHY,...”

URBAN IMPACTUrban Impact’s mission is to partner with families and communities to break the cycle of social, material and spiritual poverty. We believe communities are strengthened when families are connected, resources are generated, and local assets are celebrated.

“...In Urban Impact’s work of partnering with families and communities to break the cycle of social, material and spiritual poverty in neighborhoods throughout Seattle. The relationships built through Liberty Road Foundation have served in a variety of ways. Most recently we have been wrestling together with

how to utilize businesses and business leaders as strategic vehicles in creating economic stability and opportunity for families and communities breaking out of poverty. Bringing business leaders together with emerging entrepreneurs and partnering on projects and neighborhood-based businesses is an exciting new opportunity for us together. We have enjoyed our partnership and look forward to building on this solid relational foundation.”

Steve Bury, Executive Director, Urban Impact

IT’S THE “GIVE BACK” THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.

Like stepping out in faith, Liberty Road Foundation encourages its business partners to “leap.” When they do, God blesses them. We can be touched by what we hear, but when we stand alongside “the least of these,” we see how fragile this world is and how closely we all walk to this line everyday. Through these experiences, true transformation begins.
