community, provide informal mentoring and support, and facilitate professional

do we nominate

more?

I’m moving overseas, how do I find healthcare? Are there any

children’s book suggestions that feature female

scientists?

Has anyone used child care or

lactation rooms at Conference

XX?

Do you know your institution’s maternity leave policy? What do

you do about summer salary?

I’m about to get married – will changing my last name

affect my career?

How do you negotiate for

dual academic positions?

Parting Thoughts

• Don’t think that interests beyond science means you aren’t meant to be a scientist

• Connect with people who value your interests and ideas – even if you’re not sure what those interests are quite yet

• Build a roster of multiple mentors, peers, “one step ahead” folks

• Seek advice from others – hidden wisdom + great networking

• Learn about career options and “strategy” so that you can take calculated risks

• Have fun!
