a renais-sance effort in down-town Griffith has become a popular and

award-winning festival that ties the town’s railroad heritage with reviving community spirit. The genesis of the festival was to bring back the concept of the Maxwell Street festivals that were held in downtown Griffith during the 1970s. That rockin’ success caught the attention of the State of Indiana and the Rock ‘n’ Rail Street Festival won the Indiana Main Street Downtown Special Event Award. On Nov. 13, 2009, Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman presented the Griffith Downtown Revitalization Committee the award during a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse. In addition to live music and food, the 2010 festival also featured arts and crafts, a beer garden and giant inflatable playhouses for the younger set. With the site of the festival less than two blocks from bicycle trails, special accommodations for cyclists were available. The Calumet Citizens for Connecting Communities provided space where people could check in and store their bicycles while they attended the street festival. And all the proceeds from this festival go toward downtown beautification projects.

There’s a new spirit in downtown Griffith, and you’re invited to experience the renaissance of “The Town That Came to the Tracks”.

The long overdue total reconstruction of Broad Street is underway. We are open for business during this rebuilding time. Off street parking is available.

Enjoy everything from a big juicy steak, pizza and hot dogs to your favorite sweets at the eateries that dot the downtown. While you’re on Broad Street, stop in and bowl a few frames or sip on your favorite liquid libation.
