Teach to Learn!
Ms. Kassandra Jacobson, M.S. Education (Reading & Literacy), Capella University, MNhad 2 years experience teaching in Costa Rica before becoming our second gradeteacher. As a seasoned teacher, Ms. Jacobson presented a grammar lesson to teachsingular and plural nouns using The Protégé Effect (learning by teaching). She taught herstudents a simple melody accompanied by hand gestures; one finger for singular nounsand a cascade of multiple fingers for plural nouns. Then, they paired up to imitate Ms.Jacobson to teach each other. Students had to recall the concept, understand the material, and effectively apply it. Ms. Jacobson designs innovative instructional routines that captureher students’ attention. “While we teach, we learn,” - Roman philosopher Seneca.
