The c ha lleng e is to imp rove the func tiona lity of the CDAstyleshee t p rod uc ed by HL7 for use in CONNECT Universa l Client app lic a tions tha t d isp lay CC D ford ifferent mo da lities and form fa c tors - sma rtp hones, netb oo ks, and full size d isp lays.`The key considera tions for qua lifying ent ries include, but no t limited to a n error-free dem onstration, ac lear presenta tion of the improved value for the prima ry c are p hysician w orking outside of o ffic e ho urs,an attractive and appealing GUI display, an efficient use of the physician's time, and improvedphysician decision making with innovative data display capabilities illustrated with data from theHalam ka CCD.

It is a volunta ryresearch association of primary care physicians who collaborate on studies to describe and improveupon the phenom enon of p rima ry ca re p rac tice . The AAFP NRN assists in rea lizing o verall strate gies forac hieving improved prima ry c a re fo r the na tion.     CONNECT An Overview

    The C ONNECT solution w as built b y fed eral agenc ies in response to their need to sha re he a lth da taamong themselves and with other levels of government and the private sector using the NationwideHea lth Informa tion Net wo rk (NHIN).

    Rather than have each federal agency independently build its own NHIN-compliant gateway solution,they b and ed tog ethe r through the Fed eral Hea lth Arc hitec ture (an E-Gov initiative) to b uild CO NNECT.The CONNECT projec t tea m b roug ht tog ethe r more tha n 20 fed eral agenc ies to d efine project needs, itdeveloped the solution, demonstrated its viability for connecting federal and non-federal health

    organizat ions, and it ma de the solution a va ilab le to the public in less than a yea r.

    CONNECT is an op en source softwa re g a tew ay tha t supp orts hea lth informa tion excha nge bo thloca lly and at the na tional level. CONNECT uses NHIN standards and go vernanc e t o ma ke sure thathealth information exchanges are compatible with other exchanges being set up throughout thecountry.

    CONNECT is now availab le to a ll organizat ions and c an be used to he lp set up hea lth informa tionexcha nge s and share d a ta using na tionally-rec og nized interop erab ility stand ards.
