The upper part of the abdo-men is adorned with long tufts of hair, whichare parted and spread out laterally in thecase of the first four immediately succeedingthe thorax. The two nearest the anal extrem-ity are compressed and directed upwardly. The peculiar arrangement of these bunchesof hair on the dorsal line of the abdomenpresents somewhat the appearance of thetufts which are found on the backs of somecochliopod larvae. It is worthy of remark that the peculiartufts are very liable to be abraded in driedspecimens, and it is possible that these tuftsmay be found also in the female, though fourvery well preserved specimens do not revealany trace of them, except one in which twominute tufts appear toward the anal angle.

There is a sub-marginal series of curved brown lines at theextremities of the interspaces. The secon-daries are rosy-brown, except on the costalmargin near the outer angle, where they aretinged with greenish and marked bythree or four incomplete transverse bars ofdark brown. Under side: The wings areuniformly pale purplish-brown, the secon-daries somewhat lighter than the primaries.. The female is marked very much asthe male, but the wings are broader and themarkings of the primaries heavier and not sodistinctly defined. Expanse, ’, 37 mm. ,39 ram.

14o. S. ckloOroAbsls, sp. nov. o. Palpion the tinder side pale brown; front darkbrown antennae testaeeous collar, tegulae, and tipper side of thorax dark grass-green;upper side of abdomen dark brown; end ofthe abdomen tipped with dark green hairs;lower side of abdomen pale fulvous; legsconcolorous. Upper side: Primaries uni-formly dark grass-green with a multitude ofminute and vaguely defined spots and linesof slightly paler color, defined, especially onthe margin, by very narrow lines of raisedbrownish scales. The secondaries are uni-formly purplish-brown except on the costaand near the outer angle, where they aretinged with pale green and marked by incom-plete bars of darker brown. Under side:The wings are purplish-brown, paler towardthe base. Expanse, 36mm.

    141. S. ckloana, sp. nov. o. Thoraxand abdomen much as in the precedingspecies, but the legs are heavily clothed withgreen scales upon the outer side of the tibiae.Upper side: Primaries dark grass-green withobscure transverse basal, transverse median, and transverse submarginal lines of palebrown, defined outwardly and inwardly bydark green. On the cell and near the baseare a number of small circular patches ofdark brown raised scales. The secondariesare bright yellow from the base to near theouter margins, which together with the costaare heavily bordered with dark brown. Thefringes are pale whitish. Under side: Thewings are yellowish with the cell and outerarea of the primaries beyond the cell heavilyclouded with dark brown. Expanse, 4o ram.

    142. S. infima, sp. nov. g’. Frontbrownish-green; upper side of thorax andabdomen obscure olive; lower side paler;legs margined outwardly by dark olive.Upper side: Primaries obscure olive-greenwith the fringes regularly checked withblackish. At the end of the cell, there is anobscurely defined annulus formed by darkraised scales surrounding a paler space. Be-
