1) Teacher gains students’ respect by continuously

modeling behavior and respect towards them

i. Using culturally responsive communication

2) Teacher promote discipline as an alternative to

punishment

3) Teacher should provide appreciative praise and avoid

evaluative praise

Situation: Abu has earned a perfect score in his spelling test and he feels proud of his accomplishment. A teacher could use evaluative praise such as, “Abu, you are such a good student. I know your parents are so proud of you!
