Overview of Modern Iridology FindingsPNEI & Modern IridologyJohn Andrews (UK)
The Future
of Iridology...
Now!
The scientifi c integration of mind/body medicine for the hormonal, immune, limbic &
nervous systems with how the patient has acquired or inherited stress-related mechanisms,
basically; how stress & emotions impact these systems and vice versa
Modern Iridology & PNEI• Each iris is perfect for that individual - it
shows how the individual can retain or fi nd
homeostasis
• Remember that Iridology should be not be a
judgement on the patient (Px)
• It should be a positive & empowering
experience (PNEI pathways infl uence).
Remember the impact words can have on
a person & PNEI pathways in both negative
& positive terms - the emotional connects
with the physical
• Many signs are genetic in the iris, so may not
relate to the individual - iris shows inherent
talents & abilities for the Px - many signs
relate to our grandparents (recent genetic
studies)
Modern Iridology• Modern Iridology helps us to direct the
right clinical questions for the patient
& practitioner
• When we are faced with thousands of
iris and associated signs in other tissues
Modern Iridology helps the iridologist to
prioritize the many signs, so we have a both
a genetic & individual priority
• Look for co-signs or an amalgamation of
evidence in the iris - utilize the different
systems. This work on both the physical &
emotional/psychological levels
• Modern Iridology uses the Collarette
Structure & Diameter to determine the
“dominant iris” to help with prioritizing
- 3 -
PNEI Approaches - Mind Body Medicine• PNEI is an abbreviation for Psycho-neuro-endocrino-immunology. PNEI is a scientifi c approach
that recognizes the interaction and interdependence for homeostasis of the organism depends on the correct biological communication between and within the immune, hormonal, neurological, limbic an other systems of the body
• It is the scientifi c validation of mind-body medicine and demonstrates that the emotional or psychological states infl uence the physical and vice versa
The Microbiota-gut Interplay Serves many Functions
- 4 -
Psycho-neuro-endocrino- immunology - PNEI• Developing science
• Clinical & experimental psychoneuroimmunology “studies to date confi rm the long-standing
belief that the immune system does not function completely autonomously”from Basic Clinical
Immunology, 7th Edition, USA, 1991 by Stiles
• The immune & endocrine systems can be referred to as a brain or brains in a fl uid state
• Scientifi c validation of the mind-body approach
• Recognizes the diverse & profound infl uence stress has on the individual
• Recognizes the emotional epigenetic impact & inheritance from previous generations (exactly
what we see with modern Iridology
• Shows the central importance to all function of the limbic system (emotional centres of the
brain) & the PNEI via the hypothalamus
PAX6 gene can be infl uenced by emotions & stress
Symptoms are the tip of
the iceberg - the end result
of various pathways or
triggers. The iris shows
the foundation - the body
of the iceberg hidden
under the surface - which
contributes to the formation
of the tip.

• Based on new research & fi ndings in relation to the iris, inner pupillary border, the cells, genetics & the human body
• New systems of analysis involving: • New interpretation of many established iris
signs due to advances in ocular embryology, development of iris signs, human physiology, genetics & technological developments over the last 10-15 years
• The identifi cation of new signs, iris topographies (maps/charts) & new iris with inner pupillary border combinations combinations
• Indentifi cation of the Maternal/Paternal DNA predominance
• Flexible systems with an emphasis on the collarette, Pupillary Zone & Inner Pupillary Border
• The future of iridology... now• It is an extension & enhancement of classical
approaches - Modern Iridology does not replace classical approaches, but is an signifi cant & profound addition
• For example in my own practice I use 1% to 5% of the material from classical approaches, on average 2 %, such is the wealth of resources in modern iridology
• Modern Iridology is expanding because iridology is compelled to develop & progress
• Modern Iridology provides fl exible systems of analysis. These are interchangeable, depending on what is required at the time which validate & enhance each other
• With Modern Iridology & PNEI the Limbic system (the emotional regions of the brain) with the Amygdala, Hippocampus & Hypothalamus are fundamental in this approach and how they impact the gastrointestinal system, nutritional & metabolics, endocrine balance, immune function, cellular potential & neurotransmitters. Modern Iridology can be related to all of these
• It is robust & valid• It is a combination of science & intuition• Modern Iridology provides many other
possibilities and can improve the confi dence & professional competence for the Iridologist
• If we face any limitations or a silent iris - you can look towards Modern Iridology
• Modern Iridology enables the practitioner to prioritize the thousands of potential signs & combination of signs in the iris & IPB
• Non-invasive & inexpensive• The foundation of Modern Iridology is the
understanding & extrapolation of the psycho-neuro-endocrino-immunology pathways or PNEI Network pathways in combination with iris & IPB markers
• The beauty of Modern Iridology is that it can be applied to all forms of clinical & therapeutic approaches
Modern Iridology Summary
- 6 -
• New Dysglycemia (Blood sugar tendency) Systems with 1830 Px
• 462 Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Px
• 368 Citric acid cycle imbalance Px (Cellular Topography)
• New autoimmune profi les with 1214 autoimmune Px
• 701Progesterone Ratio Px
• 162 Hyperprolactinemia (HPRL - elevated prolactin)
• 107 Px with reduced zinc (shadow ring (iris) & Tubes (IPB)
Modern Iridology utilising new technologies has identifi ed many new PNEI & related Signs/Co-Signs Examples
Iris melanocytes
• New research & clarifi cation with the Pure Brown Iris - vast expansion of knowledge. With the pure brown iris the importance of the pupillary zone, collarette & IPB are amplifi ed. Previous iridology texts have small % brown iris, yet 80% of global population have pure brown irises
• Neurotransmitters, Immune Cells & hormonal interaction tendencies identifi cation via the IPB & iris
• The potential of the Cell for the Px• Nutritional markers including with tyrosine,
zinc, selenium, manganese, chromium, magnesium & others
• The profound signifi cance of the pupillary zone hypothalamus sign
Modern Iridology Developments
Pure Brown Iris - Achromia = Dysglycemia & <
Chromium Tendency + Hypertrophy IPB = Immuno-
Metabolic Network Pro-Infl ammatory cascades
Modern Iridology fi ndings - Rectangular melanin pigment equates
to a spleen PNEI Network Tendency. Px requires further spleen
support - with both Physical & emotional Levels. 62/83 Px had
spleen dysfunction or genetic spleen-related conditions. Topolabile
- Signifi cant for what it is - independent of location

• Chronobiological clock resides in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus
• The Hypothalamus has central importance for all approaches in medicine, health &
Iridology
• It regulates the varied interactions of Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology (PNEI) - this
verifi es the mind-body connection in medicine
• By the 5th week of gestation the hypothalamus has formed and the limbic system
(emotional responses) is in place. The hypothalamus is helping to control the endocrine
system from this time, including the anterior pituitary
• The hypothalamus is directly connected to the iris, pupil & IPB through micro neural
pathways to and from the lateral geniculate bodies in the thalami
• Blood sugar, blood pressure, body temperature, pain, infl ammation, immune function,
hormonal balance, stress, intestinal peristalsis, etc are all regulated by the hypothalamus.
Endocrine glands act on instruction from the hypothalamus

Every disease is a result of
reduced cell-to-cell & intracellular
communication - Modern Iridology can show this foundation• Immune cells, cytokines, hormones, peptides &
neurotransmitters all speak with each other in an
attempt to maintain homeostasis
• Research has found in many tumours you need
to stimulate Somatostatin. This can be considered
a new fundamental platform for any therapies.
Many tumours have increased Growth Hormone
(GH) in the cells. Increased somatostatin (mainly
produced from the hypothalamus) down-regulates
GH. Melatonin dow-regulates GH
Sections of DNA at the tip of chromosomes
They shorten every time cell replicates
Cells can maintain the length of their telomeres
with an enzyme telomerase - this adds genetic
material to the end of the DNA strand, thus
lengthening the number of times it can replicate
and prolong the cell life
Linked to IPB & pupillary zone topographies
Telomeres very prone to oxidative stress

Ex - Peppercorn pigments distributed through
ciliary iris - modern fi ndings correlate with
chromium tendency. German iridology
1950/1960s linked to iron, but ten year study
only found 3 cases of anemia from 61 Px with
peppercorn pigments. However 48/63 had
lower chromium. 10 other Px had Diabetes in
genetics. 2 Px no links.

• The crypt is a genetic or embryological sign
• Interestingly, despite the crypt’s reputation in classical iridology for deep-seated chronic
cases, this cellular CAC research found that the conditions with the crypt sign attached saw
greater levels of resolution of the condition - replicating what we see with the crypt within the
modern iridology PNEI & emotional approaches

• Psychological hostility profi les have been linked to depression, cardiovascular disease,
metabolic syndrome, increased stress, autoimmunity, lower EFAS & infl ammation
• Niaru, et al (2000) found 1,081 had metabolic syndrome and hostility has infl ammatory
metabolic effects. Hostility and the metabolic syndrome in older males: The normative aging

the risk of metabolic syndrome in adolescents. Hostility predicts metabolic risk factors in children and
adolescents, Health Psych, 22, 279-286
• A study of 6,814 healthy men & women found that individuals with higher levels of distrust,
cynicism, chronic stress or depression has increased infl ammation (Ranjit et al, 2007 Psychosocial
factors & infl ammation, Archives of Internal Medicine, 167, 174-181). Infl ammation included > CRP ,

• TNF-beta
• Main partner cell: Macrophage,
CD8+ T cell
Th2:
• IL-4

• Main partner cell: B cell, eosinophil (due
to IL-4), mast cells
• Peak production of the pro-infl ammatory
cytokines IL-1, IL-2, IFN-gamma, TNF-
beta all occurs during the night and early
hours when cortisol production is at
lowest level
• The time of the Th1 responses explains
why gastric pain, RA fl are-ups, Crohn’s
disease, colds, dental pain are all worse
in the early morning

• Alcohol & recreational drugs can
cause TH2 rigidity
• Immune T cell receptors can alter
their messaging and status in the
immune system depending on
experience
• The normal oscillation between
Th1, Th2 & Th3 balance happens
every few hours as an integral
part of a healthy immune system.
Like the endocrine system there
is an innate chronobiology of the
immune system. which we can
harness & hone our therapeutic
approach with optimal windows of
immune opportunity, depending
on the condition involved
• The chronobiology of the immune
system is regulated via the
suprachiasmatic nuclei in the
hypothalamus
• Healthy (or unbalanced) sleep pattern
have a direct impact on the success of
this immuno-chronobiology, for example
research has found this with natural killer
cells, cancer cell production and the Th1
& Th2 harmony

• Pregnenolone and subsequently DHEA are called the mother of hormones by researchers
because it is used by the body to manufacture many other hormones, including our sex
hormones that are necessary for many body functions (e.g. estrogen, testosterone,
progesterone, cortisol,...) They are responsible for the maintenance of many body functions
such as fat and mineral metabolism, controlling stress, maintaining male and female
characteristics and others. The body produces DHEA and then converts it on demand to
these other hormone
• DHEA stimulates cellular immunity or skewing of TH-1 mediated reaction in the balance where
as cortisol inhibits TH-1 reactions but will stimulate on long term TH-2 mediated reactions.
We can state that a long term secretion of cortisol (e.g. stress) will induce a skewing at the
TH-2 side of the balance inducing allergies, some auto-immune diseases and even cancer.
Some auto-immune diseases are TH-1 driven (e.g. Crohn’s disease)
• As TH-3 regulator cells, over the release of TGF-β, inhibit both sides of the balance (down
regulation) it does not directly intervene in the dysbalance but in the intensity of both the
TH-1 or TH-2 expression
• We know from research1 that Traumeel S inhibits the sectretion of IL-1β and TNF-α. These
two mediators inhibit cortisol production. That is why Traumeel S has such an infammation
down regulating effect, amongst others

• Infl ammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) = < B6 - Podophyllum Compositum, Nux vomica
Homaccord, Traumeel S, Mucosa Compositum, Dopamina D4 granules
• < B6 = > CRP levels (Zeel, Traumeel S, Galium-Heel)
• < B6 could be due to < EFAs
• < B6 can reduce GABA & dopamine
• Elevated urinary GABA could refl ect poor conversion from B6 to succinic acid (Coenzyme
Compositum)
Vitamin B6 undervalued infl ammatory & immune element - Coenzyme Compositum & Ubichinon
Compositum can assist with absorption and CAC utilizilation & effi ciency
• B6 requirements increase during pregnancy
• Urinary B6 loss caused by diarrhea (Diarrheel, Mucosa Compositum or Veratrum Homaccord)
• B6 can be reduced by oral contraceptives, alcohol or yellow dyes such as tartrazine
• Vitamin B6 requires zinc for correct absorption
• Zinc tends to be lower in plasma for up to 2 hours after eating - the heavier the meal the lower
Zn
• Anger or resentment (Staphisagria?)
• Chronobiology (Timing of the therapies)
• Th 1/Th 2 (Which pathway is “rigid”?)

The Collarette
- 61 -
The Collarette is a prominent
and major landmark in the iris - in eavery sense
In some territories, especially in the USA & Germany
the Collarette is referred to as the Autonomic Nerve Wreath.
In some countries it is know an as the “ruff”.
However, the correct medical & anatomical terminology is the Collarette
- 62 -
• Immunology
• The Endocrine System (Glands for the Hormonal System are placed topographically on the
external border of the collarette)
• Emotional Dynamics of the Collarette
• Embryology with Daniele Lo Rito
• Limbic System
• Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology
John Andrews is internationally recognised for research and exploration with the Collarette on the following levels:
A combination of new research & technology have provided exciting
new applications in iridology - the analysis of the collarette provides
the ability to ask the right type of questions to decide
on any short or long term treatments
- 63 -
The IPB & the collarette demonstrates the genetic & epigenetics links
Every Iris is Individualjust like the person it belongs to
This is why the collarette is being
utilised in biometric security scanning The Integrity of the Collarette
The iris, and particularly
the Collarette, is individual to us
to an even greater degree than
fi ngerprints
• The emerging science of epigenetics also
helps to validate iridology
• Within this fi eld geneticists have concluded
that the emotional & psychological traumas
an individual has inherited from their parents
or grandparents can have a profound
infl uence on the genetic development of
physical disease for that person - without
altering the DNA structure
• This is exactly what we can identify with the
many layers of transparent maps of the iris
• What we assess with the iris & IPB is an
expression of epigenetic aspects

24.2 Hour Individual Chronobiology Iris Map
- 65 -
• Utilizes the Collarette with a 24.2 chronobiology timeframe for humans - collarette divided
into 14.8° sections
• Connects with all topographies/systems in modern iridology - pupillary zone, IPB, emotional,
PNEI, cellular - citric acid & modern iridology chart - Grafi co de iridologia moderna
• Correlations with classical iridology as well
• We can identify our personal biological body clock, regulated by the hypothalamic
suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), using the collarette and connect with important signs on
the IPB and the other topographies or we can connect with signifi cant topolabile iris signs -
these are markings signifi cant for what they are; not where they are
• In the future we can check our individualised gene maps with our chronobiology map and
the IPB
• So for example we have a M sign on the IPB - se next image - we know this is important, but
the meaning is further enhanced if we have a sign on the collarette for 08.30 AM, 13.30 PM,
15.30 PM & 19.30 PM - we can prescribe for these times for the Px - diet, zinc, chromium,
spirulina, Gymnema, Myrtillo fruc, Bauhinia (Pata de Vaca), etc

• The term chronobiology come from the Greek
word for time chronos meaning “time” and the
study of life biology, basically time-biology of
plants, animals & humans
• Chronobiology is the science that studies how
living organisms adapt to the cycles of the
sun &moon to establish biological rhythms
• In the 1970s this began looking at the sleep/
wake cycle, but has since extended to
look at all systems/organs in the body and
chronopharmacology
• One of the main landmarks of the iris
• Scientifi c studies throughout the world have demonstrated its signifi cance in disease tendency
• Recent research has examined its embryological origin & developmental completion at 6
months gestation, except in rare cases (complete collarette atrophy)
• vOngoing research has explored the emotional & PNEI interpretation of the collarette’s
structure
• The collarette has several levels of information pertaining to physical and emotional tendencies
including that of the neuroendocrine & immune systems
• The collarette does not change its structure, unless due to trauma or surgery to the iris or
pupillary deformation - in reality transient dynamics of the pupil or even the iris tonus give the
basis for such claims
• Analysis & interpretation of the Collarette is suitable for iris types, indeed it is the most
accessible iris structure available and will provide multiple levels of information, when other
signs may prove to be non-existent or unclear

Collarette Summary
The Iridologist needs to observe for uniformity
in the collarette
- 71 -
Even though the collarette can be
described as a boundary wall, it
transcends all iris boundaries - well in
99.8% of cases - it is easily identifi ed
& assessed in all iris types leading to
multiple levels of information
Elephants - IPB - One of the most
important IPB signs - yet discovered
- as it highlights the importance of
HPA Axis balance. usually in a frontal
location. Emotional epigenetics & the
limbic system
• Genetic history of HPA compromise & susceptibility - especially with infl ammation -
compounds the Stress Axis - Adpatogens & other forms of suitable cellular support
• Thus often seen in Autoimmunity, polyarthritis, poor ECM drainage, dysmetabolic
mesenchymia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), etc
• Good emotional memory, will learn from negative emotional experience & stress - emotional
epigenetics.
• Tendency to Anxiety
• Elevated cortisol Tendency(the “A” in the HPA axis)
• Dysglycaemic Tendency - Elephants emphasize any blood sugar dysregulation
• Leptin disturbances leading to poor hypothalamic control of fat metabolism

The solitary sign
Either lacuna or pigment - on the collarette is highlighted
in the modern iridology approach
In Modern iridology this type of iris is not a
“Weak” constitution, etc. This is a fl exible & absorbant
person that can endure a lot of stress. with a distended
collarette there is a dominance of the paternal DNA
Geographical Tongue

Also in this case the pupillary mydriasis (page 35) that
could indicate adrenal hypofunction/fatigue - check if not
a child or adolescent
Modern iridology does not overlook the pure brown iris.
80% approx of global population has brown iris
With the brown iris the focus is usually the collarette,
Pupillary zone, Pupil & IPB - all the signs associated in
these areas. The potential importance for new modern
iridology maps becomes apparent
Erratic/misshapen Collarette-
selenium tendency
(check autoimmunity, thyroid, immune status, blood
group 0, etc)
When we are faced a lot of a certain iris sign then it
is usually less signifi cant to them individually. More =
Less. Less = More. Look for what stands out against the
iris background. By the way, many iris pigments in the
lower section show an endocrine tendency
- 81 -
Linear Collarete, orange pigment in the Limbic/cerebral
areas. Also note Magnesium (whitened) & Zinc (restricted
collarette) - all suggest a dysglycemia tendency with
neurological symptoms if the Px is out of balance
In modern iridology there is no need to “overdiagnose/
analyse” when faced with many signs. Focus on
the smaller signs - pigments. Also the iridomelanin
pigments suggest tyrosine conversion compromise in
the liver
• Elevated & multibridged collarette structure - “progesterone collarette” - Andrews
• New Hypothalamus Sign - Pupillary Zone topography
