PEETER MEHISTO:‘Wild’: transforming practices, sharing power, increasing learningThe talk will explore potentially transformative drivers in education and explain their importance in CLIL. Among these are the role of affect and helping students to become autonomous leaners who are assessment literate. Practical examples will be explored as well. These allow language learning to arise from student needs and hold the promise of increasing student engagement and learning.

DAVID MARSH:Sharing Ideas that Work'Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple, and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen' (by the American novelist John Steinbeck). This presentation pulls together ideas shared at the event, and in the wider community, and describes which can be considered particularly important in achieving high levels of student success and teacher satisfaction.

DONNA FIELDS:Supporting our Students through ScaffoldingSupporting our students by pre-teaching information, breaking texts into smaller parts, presenting images, vocabulary and phrases in active ways, helps to combat cognitive overload - one of the main reasons students lose traction in their academic work. Scaffolding techniques help to avoid this dynamic and make transitioning into new material an empowering, coherent and relevant experience. Based on her book 101 Scaffolding Techniques for the Language Teacher Donna Fields will share how scaffolding techniques used both in content and language classes can give teachers the support needed to help their students to assimilate information more gradually, more confidently and more successfully. She will highlight activities that honour all intelligences and present studies that stress the importance of making learning visible, interdisciplinary, collabo-rative and cooperative.

JAVIER YEGUAS:Uso de tecnología. ¿Innovación real en nuestras aulas bilingües?La ponencia sobre tecnología en el aula tendrá 2 partes, una primera donde se incidirá en el porqué de la necesidad o no del uso de herramientas informáticas (pizarra digital, tableta o bien otros dispositivos móviles) teniendo muy presente las características y formación del profesorado. Previamente habrá una pequeña introducción de la situación actual de nuestras aulas. En la segunda parte se abordará, desde un enfoque metodo-lógico actual, cómo usar estas herramientas, así como progra-mas, libros de texto, websites o apps, principalmente en nuestras aulas bilingües.Para terminar, se dará una visión general con las posibilidades que se nos abren ahora y con vistas a un futuro no muy lejano.

KAREN SAXBY:Keeping Young Learners Motivated in the ClassroomKeeping younger learners motivated in the classroom is not always an easy job! Understanding why learning a second language is so different from developing skills in, say, mathe-matics, helps us find ways to make the process of learning English more meaningful and memorable, as well as fun, of course! In this webinar, we explore ways to engage young students of English (with their parents’ help at home) more enthusiastically and successfully!
