Ohaupo School Organisation 2016

We have had a few questions about the organisation of students into ‘Hubs’ next year, so I would like to clarify the new arrangements:

Students have been placed in Home Rooms for the purpose of taking the roll. This happens at the beginning of the day and immediately after lunch.

Kowhai Hub: (including Home Rooms 1, 2 and 3) Each Home Room includes students from Years 0—2. We are fostering Whanaungatanga (relationship, kinship, sense of family connection), where the older students are able to be leaders in each room and support the younger students.

For the rest of the learning day, students will be grouped according to their learning needs. They will have either Mrs Bev Boyes, Mrs Linda Clarke or Mrs Julie Gray as their teacher for Literacy and Maths. This is exactly the same system that we have been running in the Kowhai Hub during terms 3 and 4 of this year.

All three teachers in the Kowhai Hub are responsible for the pastoral care of your child and you are able to contact any teacher at any time either in person, via the school office 823 6736 or via the email addresses shown below.

Bev Boyes [email protected] Linda Clarke [email protected] Julie Gray [email protected]

Rata Hub: (including Home Rooms 4 and 5) Students have been placed in Home Rooms for the purposes of taking the roll. This happens at the beginning of the day and immediately after lunch.

Each Home Room includes students from Years 3 and 4. We are fostering Whanaungatanga (relationship, kinship, sense of family connection), where the older students are able to be leaders in each room and support the younger students.

For the rest of the learning day, students will be grouped according to their learning needs. They will have either Miss Nielsen or Mr Harrop as their teacher for Literacy and Maths. This is exactly the same system that we have been running in the Kowhai Hub during terms 3 and 4 of this year.

Your children will also be given the opportunity to work with the children in Years 5 to 8 every Friday for experi-ences in the Health and Physical Education, and Arts cur-riculums. This will commence after swimming in Term 1.

Both teachers in the Rata Hub are responsible for the pas-toral care of your child and you are able to contact either teacher at any time either in person, via the school office 823 6736 or via the email addresses shown below.

Mark Harrop [email protected] Angelique Nielsen [email protected]

Totara Hub and Kauri Hub: (the Totara Hub includes Home Rooms 5 & 6) (the Kauri Hub includes Room 8 and the Library) The Totara and Kauri Hubs will be organised with students in Home Rooms to start the day and to return to after each break. In Room 8 will be Mr Rennie with the Year 7 & 8 students. In Room 7 will be Mrs Adams and in Room 6 will be Mr Mitchell. The Year 5 & 6 students will be evenly split between Rooms 6 and 7.

For literacy (reading / writing and spelling) and Mathematics, the students in the Totara and Kauri Hubs will be cross-grouped, with each teacher responsible for at least 3 groups. The groups will be formed based on the learning needs of the students. The grouping will change as the needs of students change.

All three teachers in the Totara and Kauri Hubs are responsible for the pastoral care of your child and you are able to contact any teacher at any time either in person, via the school office 823 6736 or via the email addresses shown below.

Bruce Mitchell [email protected] Kerry Adams [email protected] Chris Rennie [email protected]

Grouping of Students for Inquiry Inquiry and other curriculum areas may involve indi-vidual Home Rooms, Hubs, several Hubs or the whole school together.
