    How has Doyon Foundation assisted you in pursuit of youreducational goals? Doyon has contributed to my future goals bysupporting the Athabascan Dance group at MEHS by donatingmoney to educational travel. In 2009 we achieved our goal of goingto Fairbanks, Alaska for the Festival of Native Arts with the help ofthe Doyon corporation. Then in 2010 we were able to attend theGathering of Nations in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This helped mebecause I understand that to make a difference to what webelieved in we have to know everything we can in order to make ithappen by learning as much as you can. You would have to knowhow it will affect our life today as our generation is being raised inthis new century. This is the reason I plan to go to college. This iswhy I want to achieve more, to challenge myself. In traveling Inoticed this and I want to change.

    What are your plans for aftergraduation? I was accepted as an internfor Lisa Murkowski in Washington, D.C.in June and I plan to attend StanfordUniversity in the fall.

    How has Doyon Foundation assistedyou in pursuit of your educational goals? Doyon Foundationhas helped me immensely in the last couple of years. DoyonFoundation provided the funding for my tuition and books, whichenabled me to take early college classes at UAF. The early collegeclasses prepared me for college by giving me a step up in collegecredits and also helped me to be mentally prepared for college.Thanks to Doyon Foundation for their support of the students atEKCS!

    Degree: After working in my village, for23 years, and raising my son Jonathan, Ileft home and returned to school toobtain my AAS in culinary arts. I willgraduate in May of 2011.

    How has Doyon Foundation assistedyou in pursuit of your educationalgoals? Doyon Foundation has helpedme with regular and a competitivescholarship. Doyon Tourism has given me an opportunity to put myskills to use at the Kantishna Roadhouse. Doyon Universal hiredme to work at the Alyeska Cafe. I am grateful to many people. AtDoyon, I am thankful for Norm Phillips giving me time to vent myfrustrations and give me solid advice. Robin Renfroe also listenedwhen I needed to be heard.

    What are the names of your parents, and maternal andpaternal grandparents? My mother is Ethel Beck, my step-dad isMax Beck. I am Louise Paul's granddaughter.

    "I am thankful for my mother Ethel, my brother Tony and his familyand my son Jonathan. They have all given me greatencouragement. I am blessed to be part of my boyfriend Francis'life and he has supported me throughout my school and work.     What are your plans for aftergraduation? I am planning on seeking acareer in teaching. Right now I amlooking into some teaching/serviceopportunities with some humanitarian aid organizations. I want tocontinue my education and receive a master's human/socialservices or health administration.

    How has Doyon Foundation assisted you in pursuit of youreducational goals? My goal when I turned 18 was to graduatecollege without any debt. The Doyon scholarships were a blessingto me. They helped me fulfill my goal and I finished school withoutany debt. Because I have no debt I am not tied down to stress. Ican find a job and begin building up my savings for the future; myeducation was not something I took lightly because I knew that if Ididn't keep my grades up and continue to be a good student Iwould lose Doyon's support. I am so grateful for the opportunitiesthey gave me to continue my education and for the support Ireceived from the Doyon Foundation.

    What are your plans for after graduation? After graduation, Iplan to find a job in Alaska's oil industry. I also wish to pursuefurther my educational goals in the future.

    How has Doyon Foundation assistedyou in pursuit of your educationalgoals? Doyon has always provided anopen door to pursue scholarships, friendly morale, and scholarlyrelated tips of support. Doyon has provided up to date links tooutside scholarship opportunities, as well as summer internships,and summer employment opportunities. I have gratefully receivedone competitive scholarship, and a few basic scholarships alongthe way. As an out of state degree seeking student it has alwaysbeen a joy working with members of the educational department,and receiving Doyon e-newsletters.   • What are your plans for aftergraduation? Following graduation fromthe Law Enforcement Academy, I wouldlike to pursue a lifelong career in law enforcement. I would like tobe hired on with a police department in the state of Alaska andserve as a police officer.

    Degree: I got my GED in 1979. I have tried several times to goback to the university but life seemed to get in the way. I am nowgraduating with my associate's of science and my veterinarianassistant certification in May of 2011 from the UAF. I did themajority of my schooling in Tok; I have only been in Fairbanks forthis semester.

    What are your plans for after graduation? I am currentlyapplying to the UAF nursing program.

    How has Doyon Foundation assisted you in pursuit of youreducational goals? I was blessed with a $3,000 competitivescholarship last fall from Doyon. It was a huge help!

My dad's folks wereArthur and Rose Wright (lived up and down the Tanana). Mymother's folks were Steve and Jeffie Jacob, who arrived inFairbanks in 1940 with the Air Force. All of my grandparents aredeceased.

    Diana YarnoFrom: I was born and raised in Nebraska but have lived inWashington State since I was 14.

    What are your plans for after graduation? My plan is to use thatdegree by working with senior citizens.

    What are the names of your parents, and maternal andpaternal grandparents? My mom is Delores Chaney, mygrandmother was Bertha Butcher. My mom and grandmother wereborn and raised in Alaska and I have an uncle KC that still lives inFairbanks.

    How has Doyon Foundation assisted you in pursuit of youreducational goals? I don't think that I would have made thedecision to back to school at the age of 52 if I would not have hadthe support of Doyon. You guys have been awesome to work withand I appreciate it more than you could know.
