CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME Welcome to Postgraduate Study at University College Cork (UCC) and
congratulations on being offered a place in one of Europe’s leading universities.
UCC has four colleges - Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; Business and
Law; Science, Engineering and Food Science; and Medicine and Health. There
are over 20,000 students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies here
so you will join a vibrant international community of postgraduate students
across a range of disciplines.
This Welcome Pack has been prepared with the intention of making your
transition to postgraduate study at UCC as smooth as possible. This includes
information about the registration and fee payment process as well as details on
student support services. You will now have received your registration email so
it is important you are prepared, both for your academic journey and for the
practicalities of getting started.
If you have any questions which are not answered in this guide, please do not
hesitate to contact the CPD Co-Ordinator and we will do our very best to help
you:

CPD GUIDE
CPD Credit Bearing Modules
CPD modules allow for flexibility in learning such that you can take one or more
modules in any given year. These modules are stand alone and do not
accumulate in an award. You will receive 5, 10, or 15 credits as appropriate to
the module which will be recorded on your UCC student record. You may take
up to 15 credits in any year, with a maximum of 20 credits as CPD. Should you
wish to continue studying after the 20 credits you may apply to do a full
programme. Should you proceed within the next three to five years to take a
full course in the area you studied you may be eligible for exemptions from the
CPD modules you have taken.
Copies of your student transcript may be obtained from [email protected]. On
successful completion of the CPD module a Certificate of Completion will be
issued by the Centre for CPD. This will be sent after the final Exam Board has
convened for the academic year, usually in the October after you have
completed the module.
Your Details
You are not required to supply original birth certificates, academic transcripts or
parchments upon application, however, you may be asked to provide these post-
registration as we carry out spot checks on documentation as part of the
university’s quality assurance process.
Should you wish to amend your registered name you will need to present your
updated certificate or a copy of your passport to the CPD Co-Ordinator. This
change may be processed at any stage during the academic year prior to module
completion. In order to have the correct name on your Student Card please
submit the information to be updated prior to online registration. In the event
that you require a new Student Card during the year you may request it through
the Student Records and Examinations Office ([email protected]), this may incur a
fee.
If you change your email address please notify the CPD Co-Ordinator as soon as
possible.
For programmes where Garda Vetting is compulsory you will be contacted in due
course by the Garda Vetting Administrator.
You are not a fully registered student until you complete online registration, your
tuition fees are paid and any conditions such as Garda Vetting have been
fulfilled.
