The most effective tools that I saw were to develop a way to quantitatively figure out what is best for the company. If upper management can supply a trade-off type ranking system, then lower level employees who have a disagreement can use this tool and truly see the right decision for the company. A tool like this can eliminate the argument, because numbers don’t lie. Many conflicts arise because two employees are both trying to do what they think is best. There will be some conflicts that can’t be solved by this method and they will be pushed to management, when that happens instead of management solving the issue they can train the employees to solve it. This will probably take more time than just solving the problem themselves, but it will hopefully eliminate future problems from making it to the management level. Another suggestion, for the disputing employees, is to jointly take the issue to their boss. This will ensure that the decision maker is hearing both perspectives.

This article provides some tools with dealing with conflict. The most effective tools that I saw were to develop a way to quantitatively figure out what is best for the company. If upper management can supply a trade-off type ranking system, then lower level employees who have a disagreement can use this tool and truly see the right decision for the company. A tool like this can eliminate the argument, because numbers dont lie. Many conflicts arise because two employees are both trying to do what they think is best. There will be some conflicts that cant be solved by this method and they will be pushed to management, when that happens instead of management solving the issue they can train the employees to solve it. This will probably take more time than just solving the problem themselves, but it will hopefully eliminate future problems from making it to the management level. Another suggestion, for the disputing employees, is to jointly take the issue to their boss. This will ensure that the decision maker is hearing both perspectives. This is an unfortunate real part of every business. Personally I would like to see the trade-off type ranking system implemented at my work. This is a way for management to convey what they really think is the most important part of the business and actually put a number to it. Then you can see how much more important one part of the business is from any other. Not only will this help with conflict resolution but it can reinforce what is truly important and what everyone should be focused on.
