Configuring the Menu Module This tutorial is a continuation of the Add Menu Item tutorial . Once you have created, and added menu items to your new Joomla! menu, you will need to use the Joomla! Module Manager to configure the Menu Module settings. The Module Manager can be accessed from the Joomla! toolbar: Extensions > Module Manager Once you have opened the Module Manager, locate your menu module by finding its name under the 'Module Name' heading, and either click the module name, or check the box to its left, and click the 'Edit' icon near the top right hand side of the page. Configuring the Module Details - Title : The Title should be prepopulated with the Module Title entered when you created the New Menu. You can change the name by modifying the value of this field. - Show Title : Select whether or not to display the Module Title when the Menu is displayed. - Enabled: Select whether the Menu Module is Enabled or not. The value must be set to 'Yes' if you want it to appear on your Joomla! web site. - Position: Select the Module Position from the list of available positions (set in the Joomla! Template). Configuring the Menu Module

This tutorial is a continuation of the Add Menu Item tutorial .

Once you have created, and added menu items to your new Joomla! menu, you will need to usethe Joomla! Module Manager to configure the Menu Module settings.

The Module Manager can be accessed from the Joomla! toolbar:

Extensions > Module Manager

Once you have opened the Module Manager, locate your menu module by finding its nameunder the 'Module Name' heading, and either click the module name, or check the box to its left,and click the 'Edit' icon near the top right hand side of the page.

Configuring the Module Details

- Title: The Title should be prepopulated with the Module Title entered when you createdthe New Menu. You can change the name by modifying the value of this field. - Show Title: Select whether or not to display the Module Title when the Menu is displayed. - Enabled: Select whether the Menu Module is Enabled or not. The value must be set to'Yes' if you want it to appear on your Joomla! web site. - Position: Select the Module Position from the list of available positions (set in the Joomla!Template). This will determine where the Menu will appear when the page is displayed.

- Order: Select the order in which the Menu Module will be displayed among the othermodules configured within the Position selected above. - Access Level: Select which users will be able to view the menu; Public allows any user toview the menu, Registered will require the user to be logged in to view the menu, Special allowsyou to specify which users can view the menu. - ID: This is the internal module ID and can not be modified. - Description: This is a description of what the module does, and can not be modified.

Configuring the Module Menu Assignment

The Menu Assignment section allows you to select which menu items will display this MenuModule, the Default value is All Menus.

- Menus: Select which Menu Items will display the Menu Module when they are viewed. - All: Show in All Pages - None: Show on No Pages - Select Menu Item(s) from the List: Select the pages from the 'Menu Selection' list todisplay the Menu Module on

- Menu Selection: This is a list of menus configured in your Joomla! web site. The list willbe read-only unless the 'Select Menu Item(s) from the List' selection above is selected.

Configuring the Menu Module Parameters

- Menu Name: This is the Unique Name entered when the menu was created. The currentselection will be the menu you are configuring, you do not need to change this value. - Menu Style: Select the style to use for displaying the menu. The default (List) will displaythe menu using an Unordered List (<ul></ul>) (X)HTML element. - Start Level: For nested lists, this setting will determine at which level of nesting to begindisplaying the Menu Items. - End Level: For nested lists, this setting will determine at which level of nexting to stopdisplaying the Menu Items. - Always show sub-menu Items: For nested lists, this setting will determine whether ornot to always display sub items for the menu, regardless of whether the parent item is active(selected) or not. - Target Postion: This item contains information for positioning a JavaScript pop-upwindow.

Configuring the Menu Module Advanced Parameters

- Show Whitespace: Select whether or not whitespace will be displayed when the menuoutput is rendered. - Caching: Select whether to cache (store) the content of this Menu Module. - Menu Tag ID: Enter a value to assign as the id property of the root <ul> tag when theMenu is displayed. - Menu Class Suffix: Enter a CSS class suffix to be used to allow adding styles to thisMenu independently. - Module Class Suffix: Enter a CSS class suffix to be used to allow individual styling forthis Menu Module. - Maximum Menu Depth: This sets the maximum depth before menu items are ignoreddue to the fact that they have absent parent items.

Configuring the Menu Module Other Parameters - Show Menu Images: Select whether or not to show images for menu items. - Menu Image Alignment: Select the image alignment (where it will be displayed in relationto the text). - Menu Image Link: Select whether the link will be placed on the Image (if selected above)or the Text of the menu item. - Expand Menu: Select whether to expand the menu and always display sub-menu items. - Activate Parent: Set the activated id for all parents of the selected menu item. - Full Active Highlighting: Set to highlight (visually) the selected (currently viewing) menuitem. - Indent Image AND Indent Image 1-6: Indent image allows you to select the indent imagesystem to use for displaying indented menu items. Indent Image 1-6 allow you to select imagesspecific to the indent level indicated by the number. - Spacer: Text spacer to use for horizontal menus - End Spacer: Text Spacer to use after the last item in a horizontal menu. Menu Module Configuration Summary The only value you must change in order for you new Menu to function, is the 'Enabled' value,which must be set to 'Yes'. All other values may be left at their default values, however you willmost likely want to make some configuration changes to customize the Menu Module to fit yourJoomla! web site needs.
