to the documents with financial information to enlarge it later on to the non financial information

After that the specifications will extend so that all the external financial documents (inside each jurisdiction, to develop extensions to the general or main taxonomy that reflect the particularities of the different activity sectors)

Following the same strategy in the short term, the Santander Group will focus using XBRL for regulatory reporting purpose.

Santander Group is evaluating the possibility of using XBRL in their internal processes.

The idea would be that the communications between systems could be carried out with XBRL. The processes of information exchange that are currently carried out between systems by means of plain text (or any other simple format) interfaces, would be done in XBRL.

Advantages:

The language becomes unified internally.

All the systems / applications would be in disposition of communicating with the exterior without having a conversion process.

It improves validation processes of the sent information.

Inconveniences:

High initial cost of transformation.

Complex technical solution for different platforms.

Possible impact in intermediates tools for exploiting information.
