The name Augrabies, which was given to the falls by the local Khoikhoi people, means hollow place, a place of great noise, and a rocky waterfall and accurately describes the falls. European explorers had called the falls King George’s Cataract, or Hercules Falls but the Khoikhoi name has stuck.

The Mosu and Mofele Conference Centres are part of the two lodges situated within Mokala National Park.

Mokala is the newest of all the national parks and replaces the old Vaalbos National Park that was given back to the Sidney on Vaal land claimants. Mokala was offi cially opened on July 19, 2007 and currently covers 26 500 hectares. It has a variety of game but is primarily there for the protection of South Africa’s rare and endangered species – the Black rhino, tsessebe, White-backed vulture, Roan antelope, Sable antelope and disease-free buffalo.

The two conference centres at Mokala National Park are well equipped to host any high powered business or social gatherings
