Advancing Leaders. Advancing Practices.™ Does today’s health care environment sometimes seem like a raging current? Are we simply riding the waves to see where they take us? Or would we rather be proactive, “Managing the Current” in order to guide our destiny? At this year’s MMGMA Winter Conference at the St. Paul RiverCentre, we have a great line-up of speakers to help us navigate any choppy waters ahead. To get our conference off to an excellent start, please join us for a “Morning at the Capitol” on March 1. This will give you an opportunity to learn about current legislation while sharing your insights and your concerns with some of the most influential politicians in our state. Later that day, we will be talking about the topics of fraud, integrated health partnerships and the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. Wednesday’s topics are just as important. We’ll address data analytics, physician and administrative health, apologies and conflict, and the sharing of health information. Don’t worry. There still will be plenty of time for networking and access to exhibitor information throughout the conference. Please plan to join us March 1-2 for our 2016 Winter Conference at the St. Paul RiverCentre. I promise you will come away with new tools to help you as you are “Managing the Current.” I look forward to seeing you in March! Darla Morris-Preble, RN, MBA MMGMA President 2015-2016

Does today’s health care environment sometimes seem like a raging current? Are we simply riding the waves to see where they take us? Or would we rather be proactive, “Managing the Current” in order to guide our destiny? At this year’s MMGMA Winter Conference at the St. Paul RiverCentre, we have a great line-up of speakers to help us navigate any choppy waters ahead.

To get our conference off to an excellent start, please join us for a “Morning at the Capitol” on March 1. This will give you an opportunity to learn about current legislation while sharing your insights and your concerns with some of the most

influential politicians in our state.

I promise you will come away with new tools to help you as you are “Managing the Current.”

I look forward to seeing you in March!

In the ever-changing landscape that is healthcare today, physicians and their organizations are under increased pressure to do more with less. Diminished reimbursement, long hours, and mounds of paperwork (ICD-10 anyone?) are just a few of the factors contributing to the growing problem of physician burn out and a stressed out staff. Delivering excellent healthcare doesn’t have to suffer - if you navigate a path that keeps people on the right track. This workshop illuminates just such a path.

It is okay to say “I’m sorry!” Learn what and how to better communicate after an adverse event. Learn how to communicate with the patient and the patient’s family, as well as with the other involved providers following an adverse event. Learn what to document, and what not to document, in the patient’s chart.

RingofFire JoanneStadnik,ExecutiveDirector,NorthClinic

Conflict is part of human nature—and consequently plays a big role in the professional world, particularly in industries like healthcare that are in the process of rapidly evolving. But conflict doesn’t always have to be negative—and can actually be a catalyst for idea generation, innovation, and positive change. One thing for certain: conflict doesn’t need to damage relationships that we depend on in order to succeed.Within the organization, the ability to sense when executive level conflict is coming down the pike—and how to effectively manage it is essential for both everyone’s mental sanity and the practice’s bottom line. Honing an ability to embrace different opinions and behaviors, manage disagreements, ride the conflict wave and “dance through the ring of fire” is a priceless skill—and it can be mastered.
