Bienvenue à SWANApalooza!New Orleans is a magical place with a unique culture and way of life. We are happy to see you and hundreds of your colleagues here in the Crescent City for our second year of SWANApalooza. This is a great opportunity to connect with old friends and make new ones while you learn about the latest waste management technology and services.
SWANApalooza features five key solid waste industry events—all in one place at one time!38th Annual Landfill Gas & Biogas Symposium
19th Annual Landfill SymposiumRoad to Zero Waste Conference
SWANA’s Spring Training & Exam CenterU.S. EPA’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) Workshop
SWANApalooza Highlights:• Let your voice be heard…participate in the SWANA Technical Division Meetings throughout the
day on Monday.• Kick-off the week at the Opening Reception in the Exhibit Hall. • Have We Figured it All Out? Just one of the questions Joseph Benco has for you during the
Tuesday morning keynote address. • Celebrating its 38th year, the SWANA LFG & Biogas Symposium continues to be the World’s
Premier Forum on Landfill Gas and Biogas Utilization & Technology. • The SWANA Landfill Management Technical Division (TD) will Challenge the Way You Think
about Landfills with their 19th consecutive symposium. • SWANA’s Recycling & Special Waste TD has once again teamed up with the Collection &
Transfer TD and the Communication, Education & Marketing TD to help you find solutions for the financial and social and system challenges you may encounter along the Road to Zero Waste.
• This week, hundreds of your solid waste colleagues will be become SWANA Certified or recertify at SWANA’s Spring Training & Exam Center.
• Welcome to our new partner, the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP). LMOP will be offering its Workshop on Thursday morning. Registration is required for this free event.
• Take advantage of one of the unique tours we are hosting while you’re here in New Orleans. Choose from a walking tour of our host city’s sustainability initiatives or a tour of two local landfills.
You’ve come to the right place! All of the conferences’ technical sessions have been selected carefully by the Technical Division program committees to bring you the latest information. The exhibit hall is full of solution-oriented people who can provide ideas to make your job easier, safer and more efficient. Best of all, we know that networking is the most important thing about a face-to-face event like SWANApalooza. You’ll have plenty of time for sharing experiences and conversation at break, lunches and receptions throughout the week. You’re in New Orleans -- laissez les bon temps rouler! You’ll hear this expression often in the city, French for “Let the good times roll.” Ride a streetcar, eat some gumbo, and join a parade! Cordially,SWANApalooza Program Committees

Two Tours/One Bus:River Birch Landfill and Jefferson Parish Landfill
Thursday, March 19, 2015Maximum participants: 50
You’ll leave the Sheraton New Orleans promptly at 12:30 p.m. for the bus ride to the River Birch Landfill. You will lunch on the bus before touring the facility.
Then you will get back on the bus for a short ride to the Jefferson Parish Landfill.
River Birch LandfillRiver Birch, LLC is a 500 acre privately owned waste disposal facility located in Avondale, Louisiana. The
facility contains a 400-acre, Type I/II, Subtitle D landfill, two Class 1 non-hazardous waste injection wells, and a high-BTU landfill gas purification plant. Opened in
July 1999, servicing New Orleans and surrounding parishes the landfill disposes of approximately 1.2 million tons of waste per year. The landfill gas to energy plant,
designed to process 8000 scfm of landfill gas, began operation in June of 2010 and is currently processing approximately 4000 scfm of landfill gas. The pipeline-quality gas
is sold to Atmos Energy.
Jefferson Parish LandfillJefferson Parish Landfill has been serving the residents of Jefferson
Parish since 1982. The total area of the landfill is approximately 500 acres. There are two closed phases encompassing 153 acres
which pre-date Subtitle D. Phases 3 and 4 cover 204 acres and meet the Subtitle D standards. The landfill receives about 1,000 tons per
day of residential, commercial and industrial waste generated within Jefferson Parish. There are an additional 110 acres available for future expansion.
Since 2006, landfill gas has been transmitted through a 3-mile pipeline to a chemical plant for beneficial use. Recent expansion of the gas collection system has increased
gas recovery to 1,200 scfm. The Jefferson Parish Landfill is publicly-owned. Landfill operation and maintenance is contracted to IESI. The landfill gas collection system
operation and maintenance is contracted to CB&I. The landfill gas beneficial use project was developed and operated by Renovar Energy Corp.
A box lunch is sponsored by IESI.Tour participants must wear closed-toe shoes and should be prepared
for inclement weather. No high heels. Wheel chair access will be limited at various points throughout the tours.
*If you are interested in taking this tour, please come to the registration desk to be added to the wait list.
