Conference on Regulative Requirement on Building Inspection for Better Building Safety held
on 18 September 2010
The Department of Building Services Engineering (BSE), being one of the co‐organizers, is proud
to report that the Conference on Regulative Requirement on Building Inspection for Better
Building Safety was successfully held on Saturday, 18 September 2010 at Cheung On Tak
Lecture Theatre, PolyU. Over 150 participants joined the event.
BSE as co‐organizer of the Conference
Four distinguished speeches were delivered by senior government officials and scholars at the
Conference.
Dr. Joseph H.K. Lai of BSE, being one of the invited speakers, presented his speech on
“Regulatory Controls on Building Services Works”.
Slides of the presentation
The presentation introduced the regulatory framework governing building services which
enabled participants to have an overall picture on this. Regulatory controls on various aspects
of building services, such as electrical installations, lifts and escalators, fire services, waterworks
and ventilating systems were further elaborated with examples of ordinances/regulations.
Finally, Dr. Lai outlined the bills and ordinances concerning building energy efficiency. The
seminar is believed to be useful in enhancing participants’ understanding on the topic.
