During his career, he has worked on the collection and analysis of data from censuses, surveys and vital registration systems in various duty stations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and South East Eur ope. This has provided him with in-depth knowledge of the use of quantitative methods in policy development, particularly in developing countries. He has published various works on population statistics, demography, migration and reproductive health. The UIS publishes statistical data and analyses in these fields including statistical abstracts, research and analysis, methodological guides and international classifications. The UIS is the official data source for the education-related targets of the Millennium Development Goals and Education for All. UIS statistics on education, literacy and science are featured prominently in leading publications and databases, such as the EFA Global Monitoring Report, the World Development Indicators and the Human Development Report. This meeting will convey the importance of the role of the UIS in the world and in Montréal, centre for global statistics of the United Nations, and its close ties with the other bodies of the United Nations.
