Scented with a strong fragrance of historical lineage Udaipur has an air of royalty and presents to its visitors a platter sizzling with heroic stories of its founding Maharanas and the breathtaking beauty that envelopes the city and its warm hearted dwellers. One of the richest treasuries of the Indian Rajputanas, The city humbly welcomes the world tourists and guests to relish the innumerable gems it adorns. Handcrafted artifacts, majestic temples with their enthralling tales, nearby places with deep running histories that encircle Udaipur, scenic picnic spots, the lush greens are just a few of the tell tales that Udaipur has to offer. Founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559, it was the first capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar.Udaipur is known world over for both its rich history as well as its scenic beauty. Udaipur as a city is well connected by air, rail and road.
Moti Magri The Warmth of Udaipur cannot engulf you completely unless you have dipped into the legendary tales of the Mewar Rulers. Maharana Pratap and his iconic horse Chetak are legends that pourse life into every cell of the city. The tranquillity of the Moti Magri Hill that overlooks the Fateh Sagr envelopes around as one steps on the hill. It houses Life size Statues, lush gardens, light ad sound show, museum and the sunset point.
Fateh Sagar The rhythmic waters of this spellbinding lake calls out to all its visitors and give them a life time memory to cherish. The lake humbly crowns the beauty of the Venice of the East - Udaipur. Flanked over by the Aravalis on three sides the lake is the Apple of the eye both for locals and for the tourists. The beautiful Sunsets and Rises, the magnanimous Hills, the Rain Clouds all take turns to maintain the mesmerizing beauty of Fateh Sagar, that no doubt the exhilarates the Udaipurites.
Lake Pichola Udaipur is indeed a multi crowned city. With Fateh Sagar as the most frequented lake, the Pichola adorns itself with some rare glittering jewels like Jag Mandir (an island marvel), the Taj Lake Palace (a hotel from the Legendary Taj group of Hotels) and the Udai Vilas (that pioneers the best Hotels pan world.) overlooking the pride of Udaipurites.Every year the Mewar Spirit gets enlivened and glorified at the Ganagur Ghats that edges the Lake. Beautified by the deep and bright colors of Rajasthan this spring festival sure is a treat to the eyes.
UdaipurAbout Udaipur
ChittorgarhRajasthan's eternal Grandeur and Royale find themselves deeply embedded into each moment one spends in the princely ruins of Chittogarh. The Chittor Fort through its majestic precincts speaks proudly of the three wars it has stood witness to. Heroic tales of men and women both, glorify this 71 mile distant city from Udaipur. The Udaipur visit would be incomplete unless one breathes the mystical Chittorgarh airs.
Kumbhalgarh Cradled in the cluster of 13 mountain peaks of the Aravali Ranges stands this formidable medieval citadel. Rising 1914 mtrs high from the sea level, the Fort was built in the 15th century AD by Maharana Kumbha (1914 - 63 AD) and is the principal fortification after Chittorgarh, 90 kms Northwest of Udaipur. The massive Fort, encompassed by a 36 kms long wall, (which after the Great Wall of Chine claims to be seen front the moon!) has 7 majestic gates and 7 ramparts, one within the other. rounded bastion and soaring walls tower loom over the crenelated walls of the fort making it totally impregnable.
Nathdwara Shri Nathdwara (a pathway to Lord Shri Krishna) literally means the gateway to the Lord ShriNathji. This great Vaishnavite shrine was built in the 17th century on spot exactly identified by the Lord himself. The legends have it that the idol of the Lord Krishna was being transferred to safer place from Vrindaban to protect it from the destructive wrath of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. When the idol reached this spot, the wheels of bullock cart it was traveling in, sank axle deep in mud and refused to move further, at all. The accompanying priest realized that this was Lord's chosen spot and the Lord did not want to travel any further. Accordingly a Temple was built here. This is a temple and place of pilgrimage amongst its believers and a petty distance of 52 kms from Udaipur through the scenic mountain valleys makes it a ll the more a mandatory visit.
Jaisamand At a sheer distance of 48 kms from Udaipur, built by Maharana Jai Singh in 1685 amongst the hills breathes the magnificent beauty of the second largest artificial lake in Asia. The lake's inauguration was celebrated by the king in the form of gold charities equal to his own weight. Also known as Dhebar, the lake takes to its credit every reason to become a part of a tourist's itinerary. Three beautiful islands, marble cenotaphs on the embankments, a summer palace of Udaipur Queens make the perfect backdrop to the Jaisamand Lake.
