9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Why Lawyer Well-Being Matters to Clients, Law Firms, and Lawyers PLENARY | The Panel will discuss the stressors currently facing lawyers, the 2017 National Task Force Report on Lawyer Well-being, the connection between attorney/judicial wellness, competence and ethics, as well as ABA and state bar resources to assist attorneys and judges with well-being. Break 10:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

10:15 a.m. – 11:15 p.m. Introduction To Mindfulness SESSION| This session is an introduction to mindfulness for lawyers, judges and law students new to the practice, and will offer some basic exercises and practice experience, including breath awareness, talk and listening practices, and the body scan. Break 11:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Beyond Sitting: Other Mindfulness Practices BREAKOUTS| These simultaneous breakout sessions will focus on three other mindfulness exercises -- Walking, Yoga, and Qi Gong -- that participants can use at home and on the job to reduce stress, increase focus, and enhance well-being.

12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Luncheon & Keynote: The Hon. Ricardo UrbinaU.S. District Court, District of Columbia, ret. Break 1:15 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Dr. Jud Brewer: The Science: Recognizing & Breaking Stress Habits PLENARY | This plenary will explain in lay terms the neuroscience behind the effectiveness of mindfulness training for dealing with lawyer stress and dissatisfaction, as well as how mindfulness can help lawyers break free from mental habits that contribute to stress and undermine well-being, and foster new ones that foster effectiveness, resilience, and engagement with life.

2:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. Integrating Mindfulness into Practice PLENARY | This plenary discusses how firms, agencies, lawyers, law professors, and students have incorporated mindfulness practices to make their workplaces more productive, and to become more effective, creative, and satisfied in their practices. Break 3:20 p.m. – 3:35 p.m.

3:35 p.m. – 4:25 p.m. Small Group Discussions BREAKOUTS| This small group session allows participants to talk and share what they have learned, and discuss what they think they can take back to their workplaces and professional lives.

4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Mindfulness and the Path to Lawyer Well Being PLENARY| This final plenary will be a discussion about the role of mindfulness in the path to lawyer well-being, including managing stress, improving performance and client satisfaction, addressing implicit bias, enhancing social justice, and lifting the public’s perception of the legal profession.
