it seems. With photographic scenes

of exotic waterside locales adorning its

interior walls, this Ocean Palms apartment in

Hollywood, Fla., fits right in thanks to seaside

views that pour in from the windows of this

32nd-story, 3,000-square-foot condo. It holds

its own amongst some of the greats – Trump

Hollywood and the Diplomat Beach Resort just

a few doors down.

For the homeowners, who split thier time

between South Florida and Montreal, this

spacious home fits the bill in terms of luxurious

practicality. It was a “must-have” as the couple

loves to entertain on a regular basis. “It’s a real

showstopper,” interior designer Sarah Zohar

says. “There’s not one room left undone …

every space is utilized in the right way.”

Renovations to mostly everything except for the original marble flooring, which was simply restored

and refinished, were essential. The owners wanted everything done to perfection. Walls were demolished,

space was redefined, and the house was fully automated with lighting control available at the touch of a

finger. The result yielded elegantly adorned living areas open to panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Rich hues borrowed from nature color the interior throughout. The living area is for just that — living.

“They wanted a clean, open, light feel because it’s Florida,” Zohar says. A custom, floating ceiling defines

the space shaped by a deep-seated sectional sofa in a white crypton chevron texture. A tufted, cocktail

ottoman sits atop a white Artistic Looms area rug laced with shimmering silver overtones.

The home’s original marble flooring creates a seamless transition to the dining area “so guests can

actually sit in the living and dining areas at the same time and socialize,” Zohar says. A shaded chandelier

cascades light above the custom, glass-topped dining table surrounded with plush chairs from Adriana

Hoyos. Ambient lighting continues, picking up the yellow glow from inside the geometric sculpture atop

the buffet by Da-Vinci Designs Cabinetry. Dotting the wall above, an artistic seascape provides the focal

point, while an enlarged photograph of gondolas wading in a European canal continues the theme.

In the main living area, a wall of glass offers unobstructed

views of the Atlantic Ocean. Mimicking nature itself, a

photograph hangs on the wall showcasing similar blue

tones heralding from a dusk shot of a seaside town. Just

outside, a deep patio shapes an open-air social setting

for guests to relax amidst the tropical breezes.

Vibrant foods of Europe – lemons, tri-color pasta, figs, and peppers – hang on the the wall in the

breakfast area outfit with a custom banquette wrapped in leatherette. Klismos-style chairs join the scene to

complete the dining experience. Simple and clean lines continue into the softly lit kitchen beyond. Topped

in solid quartz, lacquered wood-grained cabinetry envelops the space in warmth.

Zohar’s minimalistic style reappears in the master suite, where Venetian plastered walls are colored in a

light, ivory champagne hue. A two-week process and four layers of paint were required to yield this linen

finish with a subdued shimmer. The custom-designed bed, with its headboard dressed in iridescent shades

of cream, gray and taupe, rests in perfect complement to the symmetrical ceiling that draws the eye up

around the intimate space. Muted tones dominate with the custom Privilegio Milano bed coverings and

Kravet’s taupe draperies that pull open to reveal panoramic views of the outside world — from this vantage

point, a stunning city and seascape.

Striking features borrowed from nature style the master bath. Immediately engaging the eye, a blue,

three-paneled, acrylic mural by Alex Turco runs the expanse of the wall behind a freestanding tub and glass

shower enclosure. “It’s our wow wall,” Zohar says. “When the wife is in her bath relaxing, she can feel like

she’s staring out into the ocean.”

It was Zohar’s intention to give attention to every detail in every corner of the spacious home. “You

know when you walk into a room and you just want to sit there, and you don’t want to leave? That’s the

feeling I get,” the designer says. “Comfort, but not at the expense of class.”
