What is that????• A conditional statement is an if and then statement.

• If A, then B

• A is the antecedent or cause

• B is the conclusion

Raining Example and Non-example• Which is a true statement?

• If it is raining, then I carry my umbrella.• OR• If I carry my umbrella, then it is raining.

• Decide with teacher true statement. Go to the next slide for the answer.

Raining Answer• The first statement is true. If it is raining then you should

carry an umbrella to shield you from the rain.

• The second statement is false, just because you carry an umbrella doesn’t mean it will rain!!!

• Which one is the true statement????

• If a figure is a rectangle, then it is a square.• OR• If a figure is a square, then it is a rectangle.

• Decide with your teacher and the answer is next.

• A square is a rectangle because it has four sides.

• Not all rectangles are a square, because with a square all sides are of equal length. That is not necessarily true with a rectangle.

• The second statement is true!!

Your assignment• You will be paired up by your teacher

• You will create a book with conditional statements and illustrations(time permitting).

• You will keep all statements appropriate as if we were going to teach this to an elementary student.

• You will pick a theme for your book.

• You must have a title page with co-authors and illustrations

• You need a total of 6 pages and each member is responsible for three pages a piece.

• If more than two people, then each person is responsible for three pages.

Theme• Each book must have a central theme.

• All pages will need to be about that theme

• It must be approved by the teacher

• An example of a theme would be a math book, fishing book, football book, car book, etc…
