1. SCOPE OF SPECIFICATION
This specification includes the general information to be considered by a Bidder while preparing a proposal.
2. PROJECT LOCATION
The Cerro Verde mine is situated 16 km east-southeast of Arequipa, capital of the Province of Arequipa and second largest city in Peru.
Project elevation: 2700 m above sea level (8860 ft) Project latitude: 16 32 south Project longitude: 71 37 west
3. SITE ACCESS
The mine is connected by paved roads to: Arequipa, a distance of 26 km, Pacific port of Matarani, a distance of 100 km Lima, the countrys capital, approximately a distance of 1100 km.
The Southern Railway of Peru from Matarani to Arequipa passes within 12 km of the mine site.
4. SITE CONDITIONS

A 40 000 t/d heap leach, SX/EW facility is presently operating at this site.

H. Earthquake
1. Earthquake loads are defined as the static horizontal and vertical forces equivalent in their design effect to the dynamic loads induced by ground motion during an earthquake.
2. All buildings, structures, and components shall be designed for earthquake forces according to the International Building Code (IBC), 2003 Edition and the following factors:
a) Ss = 0.8 g (Spectral acceleration for 0.2 sec. Period) b) S1 = 0.4 g (Spectral acceleration for 1.0 sec. Period) c) Fa = 1 (Site coefficient defined in Table 1615.1.2.(1) d) Fv = 1 (Site coefficient defined in Table 1615.1.2.(2) e) Site class = B (IBC Table 1615.1.1)
3. Seismic design for circular storage tanks at grade shall be according to Appendix E of API Standard 650. The effect of slosh height on freeboard and tank roof shall be considered,
4. Seismic load is the total dead or operating load, whichever is worse, and applicable portion of other loads as defined in IBC sections 1616 to 1622.
5. Tall structures and structures having stiffness, weight, or geometric irregularities as defined in IBC Section 1616.5 shall be analyzed using dynamic lateral force procedures of Section 1618, including appropriate scaling of the results.
