If there is exposure to the public, appropriate posting notices should be displayed. Routinely maintain dust control systems to keep them in good working order. Reinforcing Steel and Wire-Mesh: Uncapped rebar is a common impalement hazard frequently found on job sites Cal/OSHA requires that “Employees working at grade or at the same surface as exposed protruding reinforcing steel or other similar projections, shall be protected against the hazard of impalement by guarding all exposed ends that extend up to 6 feet above grade or other work surface, with protective covers, or trough” Wire-mesh can cause puncture wounds and abrasions if not properly protected and handled Wear gloves to protect your hands from lacerations and the rust on rebar and wire-mesh. Make sure that all tetanus shots are up to date. Workers should measure for proper fit before laying the wire-mesh down. measures should be followed:• Recognize when silica dust may be generated and plan ahead to eliminate or control the dust at the source• When cutting concrete, wet saws or wet saw kits will be used as an engineering control to protect employees and others• When wetting is not feasible, appropriate safety measures should include adequate ventilation and use of dust masks. • Shower (if possible) and change into clean clothes before leaving the jobsite to prevent contamination of cars, homes, and otherwork areas.

Reinforcing Steel and Wire-Mesh:• Uncapped rebar is a common impalement hazard frequently found on job sites• Cal/OSHA requires that “Employees working at grade or at the same surface as exposed protruding reinforcing steel or other similar

projections, shall be protected against the hazard of impalement by guarding all exposed ends that extend up to 6 feet above gradeor other work surface, with protective covers, or trough”

• Wire-mesh can cause puncture wounds and abrasions if not properly protected and handled• Wear gloves to protect your hands from lacerations and the rust on rebar and wire-mesh. Make sure that all tetanus shots are up

to date.• Workers should measure for proper fit before laying the wire-mesh down.• Securing the ends or turning the wire-mesh over will help to prevent recoiling.• All protruding reinforcing steel must have impalement guards to eliminate the hazards of impalement.
