CONCERT BAND 7-8-9 COURSE DESCRIPTION Course Fee: $50.00 for the year Full Year Option (Terms 1 and 2) Instructor: Mr. Buryn SYNOPSIS: Concert Band 7-8-9 is a full year course that provides students with the opportunity to explore the incredible world of wind ensemble performance. No previous musical training is required. The course focuses on individual musical development through group rehearsals and performance. Mentorship will be provided with regards to individual practice techniques, small group practice techniques, performance preparation, instrument maintenance, and music theory. Students may choose, with the assistance of the band director, from a variety of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Throughout the year, students work on developing their musical skills by working through various step-by-step method books, scale exercises, and small group practice sessions. PERFORMANCES & CONCERTS: The Gish Concert Band performs at a few smaller scale events during the first part of the school year, and completes their final GRAND performance in June at the Junior High Arts Gala. To add a modern twist, and a unique sensory element, many of the performance songs are accompanied by artistic music videos developed by Gish’s students and staff.
