Concept Note on Fertility
Charting a roadmap to execution
Overview
Through our report we intend to elucidate the recent trends in fertility and its treatment. Through comprehensive research we will try to decipher the various trends in data in an attempt to answer some of the not so conventional arguments related to fertility.
The various data sources we will refer to are:
Secondary Data
CENSUS: Census 2011 will provide a plethora of information on population total at state level along with Sex ratio, Literacy etc.
SAMPLE REGISTRATION SYSTEM (SRS): SRS will provide information on Crude Birth Rate(CBR), Total Fertility Rate(TFR) and Infant Mortality rate (IMR) at state level. These data will be used to study the various trends.
NATIONAL FAMILY HEALTH SURVEY 4 (NFHS 4): Various National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3 and NFHS-4) will be used to analyze various parameters such as literacy level, and socio-economic groups.
MULTI-INDICATOR SURVEYS: Multi-indicator surveys done by UNICEF. ICMR SURVEYS: Studies done by ICMR also provide information on many population related
issues. Other miscellaneous data resources from the web.
Primary Data
Depending on the consensus between all stake holders we intend to use a representational sample comprising of students from our college and various peer groups. Data gathered will be used in conjunction with the secondary data in an attempt to project key trends. Although, we would like to underscore that the sample is not a professional incentivized panel group and there can be a significant variance and skew in the data collected by this method.

Why take so much trouble?
The desire of having a progeny is a dream which is shared universally, In the Indian context it is a matter of high sensitivity and inability to bear a child can cause serious psychological, social and emotional distress. Hence the matter of rising infertility is one of great concern. We by this report aim to cover the various causes that can lead to infertility and also aim to dispel some myths by leveraging the power of data. We believe this study will greatly benefit all the stake holders and the society as a whole.
