Character Biographies

Lt. Colonel Enkidu Aketchi.

Enkidu is a character from The Epic of Gilgamesh (the first book).Enkidu was a feral beast man created by the Gods ofMesopotamia to kill Gilgamesh. Enkidu challenges Gilgamesh to awrestling match and looses, but is later tamed and civilized byGilgamesh and a woman.

Aketchi taken from Mitsuhide Aketchi, a samurai who fought forLord Nobunaga Oda, during the warring states (Sengoku) andunification of feudal Japan, who later turned on his liege and killing

him at Honnoji temple.

The characters name reflects his warrior temperament, hiswillingness to rebel against his leaders, and reference to the mainthemes of the story.

The Lt. Colonel was a soldier in the Colonial war seven yearsearlier. His role was the assassination of key military andgovernment official on the opposing side (he fought for the

unification and independence of the colonies). His tasks wereaided by a team of soldiers, some of which members later becamehis investigation department in his role after the war.

At the beginning of the war Enkidu was singled out for his intellectand capabilities, which got him quickly raised to the rank ofCaptain. After several defeats the Colonial Unification Armyreadjusted its tactics, and selected several veteran soldiers tobecome apart of a special operations task force. Their rolesincluded sabotage, raids, unsupported actions and assasinations.Enkidu became a key figure in the taskforces, for his planning andexecution of missions; he appeared to be able to combine thequalities of a deep cover spy and a soldier.

After the war was won and the colonies became unified and selfgoverned, Enkidu Aketchi felt a responsibility for his actions, beingan integral part of the victory, to hold true to the promises made forthe war effort and the new government. For this reason he join thepeacekeeping initiative set up in the military as an officer.

His role now is to maintain peace, as well criminal investigationand colonial diplomacy.

Because the character is a military officer, I look at designing anofficers uniform as well as his own preferred warrior outfit.

I did also attempt to combine both aspects for a more refined outfit.

Ambassador Athena Pandemonium.

Athena after the Greek Goddess Athena, Goddess of wisdom, andPandemonium, meaning chaotic.

The Ambassador Class is unlike the traditional Ambassadors oftoday. Due to the Colonisations of other galaxies, different groupsof colonist may settle on a planet, each holding different cultures,principles and customs. From this the Ambassador Class emerge,although not officers in the military their role is to learn to customs,

cultures, principles and ethic of the different colonies and leas withthe military. They are often paired up with investigation teams fromthe central planet to aid in diplomacy and investigation, due to theirunique insight into the different colonies.

Ambassador Athena Pandemonium grew up in the colonies; hermother and father were aid worker before and during the war,travel the colonies giving medical aid, and education (her fatherwas a doctor and mother a teacher). Athena is highly respected inthe Central planet for her unique insight into life in the colonies.

Her extroversive and rambunctious dress sense is carefullyselected to reflect different aspects of several different colonies;this allows her to integrate herself quickly into each of the coloniesshe visits. Herself, a well educated and scientifically mindedindividual, became an Ambassador because of her love of thepeople and the cultures she was exposed to as she was growingup.

Early designs envisioned her as an estranged harlequin typecharacter. But as the background of the character developed, shebecame more rounded in her designs, but still maintaining theextroversive nature of the original concepts.

Dr. Shelley West.

The name Shelley taken from Mary Shelley the writer ofFrankenstein, and West from Herbert West from Re-Animator, theoriginal character of which created by HP Lovecraft.

Dr. Shelley West was a renowned geneticist, her work being

paramount to the survival of the colonies. The varying types ofatmosphere had created birth defects and abnormalitiescommonplace in the colonies, and Dr. Wests work is responsiblefor the treatment and adaption of humans to these newenvironments.

After the war she took her own department at an academy on thecentral planet. She continued her work on eradicating birth defectsand genetic abnormalities. However her stay was short lived, whenshe fell into terrible depression after the death of her child, who

was afflicted by a rare genetic disease.

After a short stay in a mental health clinic, Dr. West left the left thecentral planet, along with two other doctors, to work in solitude onthe outer rim. Where on a small moon they conduct mysteriousexperiments and research.

Dr. Wests goal is to rid the human race of genetic disease andabnormality. She also believe that through combining and filtering

DNA she can also eradicate human traits such as hate, anger,intolerance. In short she believes she can make humans betterthrough altering our genes.

In addition to Dr. West there is also Dr. Victor Brando and Dr.Sheva Salazar.

Dr. Brando was a surgeon during the war, and as a result sawsome of the most horrific atrocities and injuries. After the war her

became a surgeon at the same academy as Dr. West. After Dr.Wests break down and eventual recovery he agreed to aid the

Doctor in her quest to correct the genetic defects humans. Dr.Brando also believes that they can cure mans hatred to other menthrough genetic alterations.

Dr. Sheva Salazar, although being apart of Dr. Wests team isntfocused of changing humans into something better. Dr. Salazarherself is a Biologist, and came with Dr. West and Dr. Brando tothe moon to catalogue and research the indigenous life that existthere, although she does aid the other two, she mostly focuses onher own research.

Dr. Sheva Salazar will present clear contrast to the other twoDoctors, and pose a significant revelation to Enkidu after he

discovers the exact nature of their work. The nature of her work inresearching other life forms and cataloguing them, she will posethe notion that the other two are trying to do in a few hours whatnature has been doing for millions of years, and continues to do.

The initial concept designs of the character Dr. Shelley Westshowed her a stark contrast in dress to the ambassador, both ofwhich are meant to be professional women. However keeping thecontrast in mind her character design evolved with her characterdevelopment and became just a reflective of her creations and her

maternal instincts.

Here theAmbassador on the right, you can see the contrast between the

two female leads. With the Doctor being more business and

refined in outfit. However this quickly developed into a moreextrovert design focusing on her motivations.

A refinement of the leather outfit, I added a series of ribs to the topand turned it into a single outfit. However I felt that the ribs were

too similar to the concepts for another character.
