The concentration provides students with the tools to analyze complex issues and policies within the criminal justice system, enhancing students’ ability to understand the nature of crime and the system response to law breaking. In addition to the three required courses, which provide a solid understanding of the field, each student will be able to select electives to meet his or her specific interests. Requirements: 1) Core 3 hours CRJ 100 Introduction to Criminal Justice, SB (3) M (Required) 2) Lower Division Core 3 Hours Choose one of the following: CRJ 201 Criminal Justice Crime Control Policies and Practice (3) M (Credit is allowed for only CRJ 201 or 294 (Criminal Justice Crime Control)) CRJ 203 Courts and Sentencing (3) CRJ 204 Juvenile Justice (3) M CRJ 225 Introduction to Criminology, SB (3) M (Credit is allowed for only CRJ 225 or 294 (Introduction to Criminology)) CRJ 230 Introduction to Policing (3) CRJ 240 Introduction to Corrections (3) M 3) Upper Division Core 3 Hours Choose one of the following: CRJ 305 Gender, Crime & Criminal Justice, C (3) CRJ 306 Race, Ethnicity, Crime and Criminal Justice, C (3) CRJ 350 Law and Social Control, SB (3) CRJ 410 Procedural Criminal Law (3) 4) Upper Division Electives 9 hours Select in consultation with a Criminal Justice advisor. A minimum of 12 CRJ credit hours must be taken at ASU. All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” (2.00) or higher. CRJ 100 is the prerequisite for all upper-division CRJ courses. CRJ 201 prerequisite requirement can be waived for 300-400 level CRJ courses, meet with a Criminal Justice advisor for this exception. Must have junior standing to take upper division courses. Some courses may require additional course prerequisites or GPA requirements, check with the course catalog and your academic advisor for details.
