F rom the Publisher...“The times, they are a-changing...”

I’m not sure how Bob Dylan’s iconic song would translate to handbells, but much has changed since our last Scorebook. I hardly know where to begin! First of all, I hope you enjoy the new music found in this Scorebook. Once again, our fantastic editors Kevin McChesney and Bill Ingram have done a great job selecting a wide variety of music for all levels of ringers. This time of year, of course, our focus turns to Lent and Easter, and there is plenty here for that special season. But there is also great music for school-use, festival-use, and general concert-use as well.

One piece that deserves a little extra recognition is Matthew Compton’s arrangement Cleansing Fountain. Matthew began writing the piece when he was only 13 years old. He is now 16 at its publication, and this isn’t even his first piece in print! I’m not sure if this makes him the youngest published handbell composer or not, but after listening to his work, I’m sure you’ll agree his talent and musical maturity far surpass his age.

Some of the changes I reflected on earlier involve new ways to keep in touch with us at Jeffers and with the handbell community at-large. We’re launching several new websites in the very near future designed to better meet your needs and to connect those with a love of all things handbell together. Be on the lookout for those. And along those lines, if you’re into social media but not fan of Jeffers on Facebook, what are you waiting for? “Like” us today! And don’t forget Twitter- be sure to follow us there, also.

Other changes involve the growth of Jeffers Handbell Supply as a music publisher and distributor. We recently purchased Gold Coast Music, Thomas House Publishing, and Descant Publishing. In addition, we are also now the distributor of the handbell catalogs

of National Music Publishers, Stained Glass Music, Laurendale Associates, CAN Enterprises, Meadowlark Melodies, and Flagstaff Publishing. Music from these fine companies will be featured in our upcoming Vibrations catalog, so be sure to check it out!

Finally, we are proud to introduce Chimers Charts™. These versatile tools are designed so that even those who don’t read music can have a rewarding musical experience ringing handchimes and handbells. Music therapists, educators, senior groups, special needs choirs and even daycare centers will find Chimers Charts useful and loads of fun!
