QuickStart Introduction

This guide is intended to detail the basic steps required to first install and then configure Com-pleteView 20/20 on a new system. For more in-depth, advanced information, consult the doc-umentation once CV 20/20 has been successfully installed. If CompleteView 20/20 has alreadybeen installed on the system, proceed to the Initial Configuration section.

Installation Overview

The diagram below provides a general overview of the CompleteView 20/20 installation model.Items marked in red are required for basic functionality, and will be discussed in this guide.Refer to the online documentation for more advanced feature configuration.

Deployment Patterns

CompleteView 20/20 is comprised of one Management Server, along with one ore more Record-ing Server(s), and Client(s). Consequently, CV 20/20 may be deployed in a 1 to 4 tier con-figuration, illustrated below. Note that the SQL database is present in all patterns, but is onlyillustrated in the Four Tier installation, where it resides on its own dedicated server. One Tier, the simplest pattern, where all components are installed on one machine. This guidewill cover this type of installation. However, the steps covered herein are applicable to allinstallation paradigms. Simply run the appropriate installer on the appropriate machine as thedesired topology dictates.

Two Tier, where components are divided between two machines, as illustrated.

- 4 -

Page 5: CompleteView QuickStart Guide - Salient Systems · 1.Right-clickonOverview 2.SelectAddServer 3.EntertheRecordingServer’sIPaddressor"localhost,"ifallcomponentsareonthesame machine

Three Tier, where components are divided among three machines, as illustrated.

And, finally, Four Tier, where components are divided among four machines, as illustrated.

Management Server Installation

The Management Server coordinates communication between the various elements of Com-pleteView 20/20, and should be installed first. The installer checks for and, if necessary, installs prerequisites for CV 20/20, namely the .NETframework, and SQL Express database server.

Prerequisite Installation

Double click the CompleteView 20/20 Management Server installer.

The installer will check the system for prerequisites. Select Next through the following screens, and wait for the installer to prompt for the file path for the SQL Express server.Note: The .NET framework prerequisite may already be installed on most systems, and will notbe a part of the installation process. If prompted to install it, however, accept all defaults andcontinue through the Management Server installation process.

- 5 -

Page 6: CompleteView QuickStart Guide - Salient Systems · 1.Right-clickonOverview 2.SelectAddServer 3.EntertheRecordingServer’sIPaddressor"localhost,"ifallcomponentsareonthesame machine

When prompted, either accept the default path for the SQL server, or manually enter one. It ishere where the SQL database may be installed on a separate machine, as illustrated in the FourTier deployment pattern.

Proceed to the SQL Express Installation and Configuration section.

SQL Express Installation and Configuration

As noted earlier, the SQL database may be installed either locally or onto another machine. Thisguide depicts the installation of the database on the local machine. Substitute paths and cre-dentials as necessary for network installations. Note that SQL installation may be a somewhatlengthy process.

SQL Installation

Accept the licensing agreement and all defaults for all screens, until prompted for a password.Again, do not select or deselect any options until instructed to do so.

When prompted, select Mixed Mode if necessary, and enter a complex password, meeting therequirements below. Make a note of this password AND the default account name, "sa."You will need both to complete CompleteView 20/20 installation.

• The password does not contain the account name of the user.• The password is at least eight characters long.• The password contains characters from three of the following four categories:

1. Latin uppercase letters (A through Z)2. Latin lowercase letters (a through z)3. Base 10 digits (0 through 9)4. Non-alphanumeric characters such as: exclamation point (!), dollar sign ($), num-

ber sign (#), or percent (%).

- 7 -

Page 8: CompleteView QuickStart Guide - Salient Systems · 1.Right-clickonOverview 2.SelectAddServer 3.EntertheRecordingServer’sIPaddressor"localhost,"ifallcomponentsareonthesame machine

• Passwords can be up to 128 characters long. You should use passwords that are as longand complex as possible.

For more information, see Microsoft's SQL Password Policy.

The initial SQL installation is now complete. Click Close.

SQL Server Management Studio Installation

After the initial SQL Express installation process has completed, the SQL Server ManagementStudio will begin installation. Accept all defaults and proceed through the installation.

CompleteView 20/20 has now been successfully installed. Proceed to the following sections forconfiguration.

CompleteView 20/20 License Management

CompleteView 20/20 systems are licensed on a per camera basis. Every Recording Server in aCompleteView 20/20 must be provisioned with a License Key. The server License Key includesFeature Keys for IP Cameras recording to that server, as well as Feature Keys to enable system-wide functionality common to all Recording Servers in the system. In a deployed system, the CompleteView 20/20 licensing schema requires camera licenses to beallocated among CV 20/20 Recording Servers.

• Each Recording Server is provisioned with a License Key.• Every License Key incorporates a set of Feature Keys.• The Feature Keys within a License Key enable the set of cameras allocated to that Record-

ing Server.• The Feature Keys within an individual server License Key also enable any other VMS cap-

abilities or features allocated to that server.

Typically, all Recording Servers in a system incorporate a uniform set of capabilities and fea-tures, but each handles a different group of camerasIn a system that employs a single machine hosting the Recording and Management servers, asshown in the figure below, all cameras and features are maintained in a single License Key loc-ated on the server.

- 12 -

Page 13: CompleteView QuickStart Guide - Salient Systems · 1.Right-clickonOverview 2.SelectAddServer 3.EntertheRecordingServer’sIPaddressor"localhost,"ifallcomponentsareonthesame machine

When properly configured, the server configuration agrees with the set of cameras and fea-tures contained in the License Key, and all client configurations agree with the server con-figuration.In a system that employs multiple Recording Servers as shown in the figure below, the camerasand features included in the system are maintained in multiple license keys where one licensekey is allocated to each Recording Server.

For each Recording Server in this scenario, the set of cameras and features contained in itsLicense Key agrees with its own configuration. In addition, client configurations must agree withthe sum of server configurations. In a multiple server system, all servers should incorporate the same set of VMS features, buteach will manage a different set of cameras.

Obtaining and Applying a License Key

Note: If you purchased a PowerProtect server with CompleteView 20/20 pre-installed, you mayskip this section, and proceed to the Initial Configuration instructions.License keys are generated at the time of installation, are private, and cannot be transferredfrom one server to another.Prior to server software installation, an email should be received from [email protected] . Contact Salient at 512-617-4800, 1-844-725-4368, or the email addressabove for licensing assistance.

General Steps

1. All components of CompleteView 20/20 must be installed first, per the instructionsdetailed in this manual.

2. Obtain the server Product ID (also referred to as a GUID), as shown below.3. Reply to [email protected] with the Product ID (GUID).4. An email will be sent from [email protected] with the "cvserver.lic" file attached.5. When received, each unique license file should be saved or copied to the [C:\Pro-

gram Files\]Salient Security Platform\CompleteView 2020\Re-cording Server\ directory for each Recording Server.

Each Recording Server is required to have a unique license file. Only one Management Servershould be installed for a given deployment. The Desktop Client may be installed on as manymachines as desired, but only one instance is required.

Obtaining the Product ID (GUID)

After all components of CompleteView 20/20 have been installed:

1. Log into the Desktop Client (described in Initial Configuration).2. Select the Configure module.3. Select the desired Recording Server from the left pane.4. Select and copy the Product ID.

5. Send the Product ID to [email protected]. Proceed with the General Steps above.
