An adverb is a part of speech that provides greater
description to a verb, adjective, another adverb, a phrase, a clause, or a sentence.
•Abruptly: I thought the movie ended abruptly.•Beautifully: The beautifully painted landscape is a wonderful addition to my living room decor.•Delicately: Grandma's crystal vase is a priceless antique that must be handled delicately.•Delightfully: Her outfit showcased her delightfully quirky personality.•Firmly: The teacher firmly disciplined the students for their mis-behavior.•Lightly: She lightly dusted the brownies with a layer of powdered sugar before serving•Truthfully: She truthfully answered the police officer's questions.•Quickly: Quickly finish the grocery shopping so we can get to the party in time.
•Wearily: At the end of a long day, she wearily headed to bed.
Conjunctions are words used
to connect words, phrases, or clauses.
Prepositions are linking words. Prepositions are
very important words - they link words together in a way
that makes sense. Prepositions come before a noun (or
pronoun) to explain its relationship to other words in the
sentence.
About: They have a discussion about football.Above: A plane is flying above the village.Abroad: Mary went abroad.According to: According to my family, I’m a clever student.Across: You can swim across the river.After: I slept after I arrived my house.Against: This company is up against the bankruptcy.
Daily Spelling Practise!
Monday
Look at the Year 5/6 Spelling list and
identify 5 spellings that you will learn
this week.Choose words with
similar spelling patterns.
Copy out each spelling five times, checking each time it is spelt correctly.
Tuesday
Today you will copy each of your spellings in a
sentence – checking it is correct.
Make sure you use a dictionary/ the
internet to check if you are unsure of a
definition.
Wednesday
Using the write, cover, check
method, write out each spelling 5
times. In between each time, check your
spelling – is it correct or is there
something you need to remember?
Thursday
Allow yourself one minute to look at each spelling and
then from memory write it out 5 times.
Spend 10 minutes focussing on the
spellings you did not write correctly.
Friday
Today you are going to test yourself on
your chosen 5 spellings.
Spend 2 minutes looking at the
correct spellings or yesterdays revision.Write each spelling in a sentence and
then mark using the spelling list.

Over the next few pages there are questions relating to the three topics that will help you with your writing this week.
Select either the green or yellow chilli depending how confident or daring you are feeling.
