COMPETITION RULES GROSS COMPETITION FORMAT 1. The competition will be a junior competition in the form of an 18-hole medal qualifying round. 2. Competitors must be under 18 years of age at midnight on 1 January 2019. 3. All boy competitors will play off the men’s medal tees. 4. All girl competitors will play off the ladies’ medal tees. 5. The winners of the gross competition will be the boy and the girl with the best gross scores. 6. The competition standard scratch will be used for boys. The CSS for the men’s medal tees must be clearly indicated on the player’s card and his gross score must be shown against CSS as opposed to par. 7. The competition standard scratch will be used for girls. The CSS for the ladies’ medal tees must be clearly indicated on the player’s card and her gross score must be shown against CSS as opposed to par. Where a girls’ competition has fewer than five entries, the score will be determined against the SSS of the ladies’ course and not the CSS. 8. Ties in each club competition will be decided on a countback over the last nine, six, and three holes in that order (holes 10-18). The front nine (holes 1-9) score should then be counted by the same method. If still tied, a sudden-death play-off should be held over holes decided by the club competition organiser. 9. A boys’ club competition must have a minimum of five eligible players. A girls’ club competition must have a minimum of two eligible players. NET COMPETITION FORMAT 10. The CSS must be clearly indicated on the player’s card and her net score must be shown against CSS as opposed to par. Where a girls’ competition has five or less entries, the score will be determined against the SSS of the ladies’ course and NOT the CSS. 16. Ties in each club competition will be decided on a countback over the last nine, six, and three holes in that order (i.e. holes 10-18). The front nine (i.e. holes 1-9) score should then be counted by the same method. If still tied, a sudden-death play-off should be held over holes to be decided by the club competition organiser. GROSS AND NET COMPETITION FORMAT 17. No caddies are allowed at qualifying competitions and juniors must play on their own, not with adults. 18. The competition should preferably be open, although if club rules prevent this, closed competitions will be allowed. 19. A boys’ club competition must have a minimum of five eligible players. A girls’ club competition must have a minimum of two eligible players. ELIGIBILITY 20. In the event of a SINGLE GIRL PLAYER only, if the girls’ competition and the boys’ competition are to be staged the same day, this girl may play alongside the boys using the ladies’ medal tees. She would be subject to the girls’ competition rules with the addition that the scorecard must be marked by a boy entrant (aged 15 or over OR with a handicap of 12 or less). Upon completing the course, the girl entrant would only be eligible to be the girls’ competition winner, NOT the overall winner. A girls’ competition that takes place on a separate day to the boys’ competition, in which only one girl participates, will NOT constitute a competition. Please note, when returning the girls’ competition proforma, please make sure that the girl’s name, age and handicap details are clearly indicated. 21. ALL BOYS MUST HAVE A HANDICAP OF 28 OR LESS; ALL GIRLS MUST HAVE A HANDICAP OF 36 OR LESS. 22. All competitors must be permanent residents in the UK or ROI. PRIZES 23. The following prizes will be supplied: A thank you card from Justin Rose for each competitor. A gift for the boy and girl winner of both the gross and net competitions. Every effort will be made to ensure these prizes are dispatched in time for your competition. If they have not arrived within two weeks of the competition, call the Championship hotline on +44 (0)344 693 1885 or email [email protected] RESULTS 24. The boy and girl winners’ scorecard(s) must be signed by the junior organiser and the club captain or club secretary before they are returned. 25. The CSS must be clearly marked on both the boys’ and girls’ cards. 26. The winners’ results proformas, which will be sent to you with your prize pack, must also be returned along with your computer results printout in the pre-paid envelope supplied. It is important that you return your results proformas and computer results printouts so that all results can be entered on to our national leaderboards. If we do not receive your results, the names of your juniors will NOT be featured in The Telegraph or on telegraph.co.uk/juniorgolf CHAMPIONSHIP DEADLINES 27. All club qualifiers MUST take place on or before 16 September 2019. Competitions held after this closing date will NOT constitute a qualifying event. IMPORTANT 28. All results information MUST be returned by 12noon on 18 September 2019. Results will NOT be accepted after this time and will not be included on the national leaderboard. QUALIFICATION 29. 33. The 2018 boys’ champion is age-eligible, so will have the opportunity to attend the final in 2019.34. The committee will select one boy and one girl to qualify for the final via a sponsor’s invitation, subject to the eligibility criteria. This decision is made by the appointed committee and its decision is final. 35. The committee will select one boy OR one girl to qualify for the final via a

venue invitation, subject to eligibility criteria. This decision is made by the appointed committee and their decision will be final. Should this invitation not be allocated, the finalist will be selected from the next qualifying position on the national leaderboard.

36. The remaining 9/10 boys’ finalists will be selected from the national leaderboard, which is compiled from the best gross scores against competition standard scratch of all the qualifying winners.37. The remaining 10/11 girls’ finalists will be selected from the national leaderboard, which is compiled from the best gross scores against competition standard scratch of all the qualifying winners.38. In the event of a tie in the scores of club competition winners, qualification for the final will be decided by countback over the last nine, six and three holes, in that order. The second nine holes on the qualifying competition card will be used in any countback situation. If still tied, the front nine scores should then be counted by the same method.39. At the final, the champions (boy and girl) will be the competitors with the lowest gross totals over 54 holes. In the case of a tie, there will be a sudden death play-off, playing a selected hole repeatedly.40. All competitions will be played under the Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, except as modified by local rules.

41. All play will be with golf balls and clubs in the current list of conforming equipment issued by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

THE FINAL – NET COMPETITION42. NEW Two boys and two girls will win the net prize in 2019.43. The two boys’ finalists will be selected from the national leaderboard, which is compiled from the best net scores against competition standard scratch of all the qualifying winners.44. The two girls’ finalists will be selected from the national leaderboard, which is compiled from the best net scores against competition standard scratch of all the qualifying winners.45. The two boys’ and two girls’ net winners (along with a chaperone each) will attend the final at Quinta do Lago on 14, 15, 16 November 2018. 47. The two boys’ and two girls’ net winners will not compete during their time at the final. They will be the overall net winners and the trip to the final will be their prize. 48. Any matter not specifically outlined in these rules will be determined by the competition organisers, Brookes Sport, whose decision is final.
