CONDITIONS OF ENTRY 1. Photographic entries must have been taken in the City of Belmont and/or the subjects within the photographs must be relevant to the history of the region. The region includes Ascot, Kewdale, Redcliffe, Rivervale, Cloverdale, Belmont and areas known under previous names such as South Belmont and Newburn. 2. The entrant must be the owner of or have permission from the photographer to enter the photograph(s) into the competition. All images submitted must contain a description or a story, including (where known) the location, the people in the photograph, the photographer’s name and approximate date the photo was taken. 3. Entries must be original photographs or high quality scans. If you are unable to scan your photographs (ideally minimum 600dpi TIFF files) please visit the Belmont Museum where the Library and Heritage staff will be happy to assist. 4. A copy of the photograph/s entered in the competition (or the original photograph/s if donated) will be retained in the City’s Museum Collection. 5. Winners will be selected based on the originality of the photograph and the story behind it. 6. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 7. The City of Belmont reserves the right not to present an award if the entries do not justify one. 8. Entries, including the fully completed and signed application form, must reach the Belmont Museum by the last Friday in August each year. Entries may be posted, handed in or submitted online. Posted entries must be addressed to: Belmont Museum, Locked Bag 379, Cloverdale WA 6985. Hand delivered entries may be dropped off at the Ruth Faulkner Library or the Belmont Museum, 213 Wright Street Cloverdale. Entries may be submitted online at www.belmont. wa.gov.au/museum. 9. There is no limit to the number of entries that can be submitted, however where an entrant has entered multiple photographs of the same subject matter, the City of Belmont reserves the right to select a maximum of five of those photographs for the judges to assess. With your old family photos you could help the Belmont Museum in its mission to preserve and promote the rich history of the City of Belmont.

Prize Categories:First prize $500 Highly commended (two prizes) $250 each

How to Enter Under 18s need their parent or guardian’s permission to enter.

Step 1Dig out an old photograph which tells an interesting or unknown aspect of the City of Belmont’s history.

Step 2Tell us as much as you can about the photograph. Where and when it was taken? Who took it and who is in it? What is the story behind it?

Step 3Submit your entry in person, by post or online via the City of Belmont website at: www.belmont.wa.gov.au/museum

The City of Belmont Local History Photographic Competition runs annually, opening on the first Monday in November and closing on the last Friday of August each year. Photos may focus on different themes of local life:

• People (e.g. family and friends)• Work (e.g. Christmas parties, people at work or a new business opening in Belmont)• Sport (e.g. action shots, winning/participation award photos, or photos from events no longer held)• Leisure (e.g. family picnics, religious and/or cultural events or boating on the river)• Services (e.g. school photos, churches, visiting the library)• Transport (e.g. using or featuring trains, buses, planes, bicycles, boats or any other means of transport)• Places (e.g. a special place in Belmont that means something to you)

Remember to include details of who is in the photograph, where and when it was taken, and any interesting or funny stories related to it. The more information, the better.

The winners will be announced during this year’s Let’s Celebrate Festival.

Entries must be original photographs or high quality scans, ideally minimum 600dpi TIFF files. Please contact the Belmont Museum on 9477 7450 if you need help scanning your photograph or submitting your entry.
