ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY CANDIDATE PROFILE

TOWN OF WOODSTOCK & SCHOOLS

Located along the Massachusetts border in northeastern Connecticut’s “Quiet Corner,” Woodstock is a small town with more than three centuries of rich history. From its agricultural roots, Woodstock has maintained its farming heritage and is home to more working dairy farms than any other town in Connecticut. Geographically, Woodstock is the second largest town in the state, with more than 60 square miles within the town’s borders. Much of this land has been preserved as open space and the agricultural tradition is still going strong. Its rural character is preserved through town ordinances protecting the natural landscape, and Wood-stock prides itself on the natural beauty of its community and the friendliness of the people who live there.

�e combination of open space, farms, small businesses, antique shops, and local cra�ers epitomize Woodstock as a New England town. Additionally, the communi-ty’s location and proximity to state and interstate highways o�er convenient com-muting options to cities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Woodstock Public Schools is a small district with a nine-member Board of Educa-tion overseeing the operation of two schools. Woodstock Elementary School serves students from prekindergarten through the fourth grade and Woodstock Middle School serves students in grades �ve through eight. High school students attend Woodstock Academy, which is located in the town and operates as a public-private partnership with the towns served. In addition to Woodstock, the nearby towns of Brooklyn, Canterbury, Eastford, Pomfret, and Union pay tuition for their students to attend the Academy.

�e Woodstock Board of Education invites outstanding educational leaders to apply for the position of superintendent of schools. �e successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Board of Education to promote an e�ective partner-ship that leads the school district toward a shared vision of continued excellence. f�e Board of Education will be assisted in its superintendent search by C.E.S. Executive Search Consultants. It is anticipated that the new superintendent will be selected in the spring, and will assume full responsibilities of the superintendency in the summer of 2016. f

• Will inspire and motivate sta� and students to achieve exemplary performance within a positive, safe, and productive district culture while being visible and accessible to all stakeholders;

• Has experience in overseeing curriculum development based on the Common Core State Standards and will promote implementation of "best practices" in student performance assessment; • Possesses knowledge and skills in implementing e�ective instructional practices

throughout the district and will facilitate e�cient use of district resources to maximize achievement for all students;

• Will lead implementation of performance evaluation model developed by the District Professional Development and Evaluation Committee in a supportive and professional manner and develop and maintain a system for ongoing professional development of all employees;

• Will establish and sustain e�ective communications with the Board, students, sta�, parents, community and seek and respond to stakeholder feedback;

• Will build and enhance community relations with the schools, build support for the public schools throughout the community and with local government boards, and foster positive relationships with media;

• Will develop strong ties with volunteer groups throughout the community that support the school district and will build a strong working relationship with the Woodstock Academy;

• Will gather and analyze data for informed decision-making and will provide the Board sound recommendations that foster e�ective and e�cient allocation of district resources;

• Will assist the Board with formulating sound district policy, with de�ning expectations of employee performance, and with implementation of a governance model that e�ectively serves students and sta�;

• Will develop the annual school operational budget and apply sound business practices to implementing and monitoring the budget;

• Will provide assistance to Board during employee contract negotiations, administer employee labor contracts consistently and e�ectively, and keep abreast of state laws a�ecting collective bargaining;

• Will focus on attainment of the Board's goals as documented in the district's strategic plan and will regularly report progress toward goal attainment; and

• Will model appropriate ethical behavior, provide moral leadership, and exhibit multicultural and ethnic acumen, working with social and human services, as appropriate, to bene�t students.
