Data availability

• The authorithy has the rigth to recieve processed and raw data

• The release of data: – a) 2 years for data which are not commercially available,,– b) 10 years for data, which have been commercially available – c) 5 years for other data.– d) For interpreted data the duty of secrecy shall have a duration of 20 years.

• In the early 90’s. NPD forced the 3 Norwegian companies to make the 3D over the 34/11 available or otherwise the block would not be announced in th upcoming concession round

• It was cleare that the authorithies did not want competition on data• Following this all licence seismic became commercial vailable.

Petrobank in the early 90’s

• The need:– The 3D as an exploration tool– Increased volume ,copying and storage challange

• Requirement:

– User driven development

– Utilize the state of the art of tools at an internatioal level in Norway– Company ownership to the data– Contractor ownership to the toolbox – Early success with focus on storing post stack seismic data and wells– Later development of storage of prestack/field data in order to start the interpretation in the

processing – The system must be open for contineous development

– IlGI compatebility • Means:• Teleological pull:Cooperation on Data,Tools,Meethods and theories and competition on the use• Authority push• Technology leader

The ILGI philosophy :Late 70’s

• User driven– The system shall have a low technical and economic threshold to use

• Open ended development

– Do not constrain the data structure by the current knowledge– You don't know the question you will ask tomorrow – Look outside your own environment to find solution– RF leather cutting program– Identify and plan future possibilities

• Obtain early success and user commitment by leveraging on reduced time on the most time consuming elements– Range chart – Digitising of seismic – Storing of wireline logs

The current situation

• Sinas storage of common data:– Post stack seismic data 100%– Low drive for storage of Prestack data– Diversity of well data

• Exellent supplement on NPD homepage• Supplementary well data set in context by ex

Aceca• Special data in contractor databases

The Knowledge base of tomorrow

• Present data in a way that allow interactive creation of knowledge by by establishing new relations between a diversity of data at the edge of bounded instability trough associative dialogues

• Present data in holistic context

• Chaos minus exformation is information concept requires the need for storing and accessing raw data

• Means– Revitalise the Cooperation and Competition concept and create a

teleologic pull for all partners.

– Technical needs should not be postponed by commercial issues
