What we do:
We design, supply, implement and support telecommunication networks on a turnkey basis.
Our main focus is on the design and implementation of broadband access networks for Operators, in the licensed and unlicensed frequency bands, in order to provide triple-play services (voice, data, video).
We also provide an array of other technologies and infrastructures to enable Operators to provide their customers with world class telecommunication solutions.
Who are our Customers:
Fixed and Mobile Operators, both existing and start-up. Large ISP’s rolling out broadband services, or diversifying their networks. Municipalities and other entities rolling out large private networks.
Where we are:
Our footprint covers Sub-Saharan Africa, with our main focus on the Southern African countries.
We currently have offices in Cape Town, Pretoria and Windhoek.
Our Goal and Mission
Statement:
To provide strategic and technical value to our Customers by designing, building and maintaining cost effective communications networks for Africa’s leading Operators and Service Providers.
We take great pride in being able to offer our Customers our wealth of experience and access to world class products through our key relationships with manufacturers, in order to assist their rapid deployment of networks to meet the current and future needs of the telecommunications market.

Gondwana Communications was founded in 2003 by a group of South African Entrepreneurs, who
have a significant number of years of experience in the Telecommunications industry. A 30% stake of
Gondwana’s shareholding is owned by a BEE company. We currently have a BB BEE Level 3 certification.
Gondwana Communications has spent many years developing strategic partnerships with
manufacturers and developers of world class telecommunications technologies. This allows us to
provide our clients with the most appropriate turnkey solution, incorporating technology choice,
equipment supply, software and services.

Wireless Access:
Gondwana Communications has installed more than 120 Base Stations and associated infrastructure including more than 10,000 CPE lines, completing turnkey broadband and wireless network infrastructure deployments.
These networks have been deployed in various African countries, incorporating both dense metropolitan type rooftop builds, and rural tower builds.
PTP Transmission:
Gondwana Communications has supplied many hundreds of PTP transmission links, both in the unlicensed bands and in the licensed microwave bands.
Gondwana Communications provides installation and support services on these technologies.
VSAT:
Gondwana Communications has been involved with the installation of more than 150 remote sites, including hub infrastructure, to cater for a full range of managed satellite services.
Gondwana Communications provides mobile satellite services off the Inmarsat BGAN network to many clients in different parts of Africa.
Network Infrastructure:
Gondwana Communications is able to supply and install all associated equipment required to provide its customers with a turnkey solution.
This includes:
Towers
Climate controlled shelters
Power Systems (48 VDC, AC UPS systems, solar etc)
Equipment racks
Bracketry and cable trays
Backhaul systems either PTP or PTMP
Network management systems.
Maintenance & Support:
Gondwana Communications has the necessary infrastructure in place to provide its customers with 24/7 support and maintenance, including a facility to log and track calls via a web based Helpdesk system.
We maintain a core group of very experienced technicians who have the relevant skills to support all equipment that we supply.

Training:
Gondwana Communications provides certified courses both in-country and at the Vendor locations. Courses can be customised to the client’s requirements
In addition, Gondwana provides full on-the-job training to the Operator’s technicians and engineers during network rollouts.
Professional Services:
Gondwana Communications has highly skilled Engineers and is able to offer an array of professional services, including:

Assistance with network architecture design

Identification of integration requirements
Project Management:
Gondwana Communications has highly skilled Project Managers who are responsible for managing all components of the projects undertaken.
We make use of the Daptiv web based project management system in order to control all aspects of a nationwide project implementation from a central office.
CPE Installation and Management:
Gondwana has extensive experience with managing the logistics and implementation of CPE installations, including:
Setting appointments
Installing CPE’s
Managing and attending to call outs
Managing stock
Procuring and managing installation materials
CMS (Cient Management System):
Gondwana Communications has developed an in-house CPE Management System tailored around managing the deployment of WiMAX BST’s and CPE’s.
It includes different modules that allow all aspects of the value chain to be managed and controlled, including stock management, appointment setting, installation management, as-built parameter capturing, call-out scheduling, helpdesk procedures and reporting.

the licensed and unlicensed spectrum arena:
Telecom Namibia WiMAX:
Gondwana Communications provided Telecom Namibia with a 3.5 GHz FDD Alvarion WiMAX solution to replace its legacy wireless technologies in urban and rural areas across the entire country, including Windhoek. The platform provides broadband data as well as primary voice services.
The ongoing project is inclusive of the following components: • Site and EME surveys and radio network planning • Base station installations • Integration to existing network management systems • Subscriber installations • Ongoing support of the network under SLA
Orange Botswana WiMAX:
Gondwana Communications provided Orange Botswana (via France Telecom) with a 2.5 GHz TDD 802.16e Alvarion WiMAX solution, enabling it to diversify from its current GSM operations and start to offer broadband voice and data services.
The ongoing project is inclusive of the following components:
• Site and EME surveys and radio network planning
• Base station installations • Backhaul planning and installation • Network management
MWEB SA WiMAX:
Gondwana Communications provided MWEB SA with a 2.5 GHz TDD Alvarion WiMAX solution, enabling it to implement a significant trial network in several centres, offering broadband wireless data services.
The project was inclusive of the following components:
• Site and EME surveys and radio network planning
• Base station installations • Alvaristar NMS • Backhaul links installation • CPE installations

MWEB SA Unlicensed PTMP:
Gondwana Communications provided MWEB SA with a 5.4 GHz Alvarion PTMP solution, enabling it to offer DSL replacement services to the SME market. The Access network was backhauled with Radwin 2000 PTP links.
The project was inclusive of the following components: • Site and EME surveys • Base station installations • Alvaristar NMS • Backhaul links installation • CPE installations
Medi-Clinic PTMP Private Network:
Gondwana Communications provided Medi-Clinic with a turnkey solution to create a private network connecting the hospital to surrounding doctors, thereby allowing access to online radiology information and other services. An Alvarion BA-VL PTMP system was used. This is a good example of using unlicensed band equipment in a vertical market application.
The project was inclusive of the following components:
• Site and EME surveys • Base station installations • AlvariCRAFT NMS • CPE installations
Cell C Unlicensed Band PTP Backhaul:
Gondwana Communications supplied Cell C with hundreds of Radwin PTP links in order to build temporary and redundant backhaul transmission links for their rural and urban GSM base station network.
This is a good example of where
unlicensed band products can be successfully deployed in rural and urban environments to deliver carrier class services.
